right,so i done an EP for this recordlabel and i need to
know certain things before i pass the mixdown for
mastering...do i have to use the reverberisation before or
after the mastering is done?
anyone who knows something about music production is most
welcome?

in general, effects are added during the mixing stage, not
during the mastering process. i think.

while the project is still in the multitrack.

oh, if you're having someone else master your tracks,
definitely add the reverb yourself. because effects like
that have to be perfect to your own ears - somebody else
won't be able to add the right amount or give it the right
texture or whatever.

if you're having someone else master the tracks, ask that
person!

what if they tell him to pay for them to do it so that they
can make extra money?

hah, yeah i know that and i defo wouldn't let him add the
amto, but i just want to know is it done before or after, cos
i'm not sure if i add the reverb would he be able to pull
out the freqs like he would if the tracks were dry...

i don't want to sound totally ignorant with him...he's my
guru.lol

they would be pretty shit and a good reason to not use them.

nah...he clearly stated that he does only mastering, which
includes eq-ing,compression and gating!
i think that 50$ an hour is an reasonable price, since the
dollar drasticly fell?

qrter - i agree if that is the case. i don't think he's out
to scam him, but you never know... i could think of a few
studios near me that would gladly charge me a lot more money
for extras i don't need.

plaster - if he only does the things you describe, just put
the reverb on yourself in advance. that's what mastering is
for - to get it all sounding perfect as a final touch.
don't pay for something you're going to tweak yourself
later. (imo)

he will be paying the guy, it's only fair to ask something
like that. it's part of asking how he is supposed to deliver
the tracks, in what kind of form.

sure, i agree - no reason not to ask. i thought he wanted
opinions on what he should do about the actual process.
sorry if my general distrust of music industry types creeped
in too much. :)

he said that i don't have to play for the test copy, which is
really cool,otherwise i wouldn't throw 100$ for two tracks.
last time my mate did coleague did mastering and
reverberisation for me in his studio and it sucked hard,i
don't want to reply that again.

the only thing is that i don't wanna be like an total noob
infront of someone like twerk.
i never actually come to this stage of processing the tracks
and i want it to sound flawless.

that is exactly why you should ask those questions.

do you care about coming across as a n00b or do you care
about how your music will come out sounding?
