the neighborhood being the world =(

There goes the neighbour :(

And by the neighbour I mean the U.S.

As John Berger, famouse british socialist, I believe it was
a choice between a society open to the world and a society
closed on itself.

I'm not really surprised as the US always had this tendency
toward the later, yet I don't believe that such is an
adequate position for a country which whishes to be
considered the leader of the free world.

Anyway as Cossiga, ex italian president, stated "If John
Kerry by becoming president continued the same politcs of
his predecessor, how could we leftists oppose him after
giving him so much support without looking as hypocrites."

He may very well be right.

There was no way to avoid voting in student neighborhoods in
Wisconsin. At the end of the day I'd recieved 9 phone
calls, 4 personal visits, a 30 sheet literature drop, a
parade battalian caroling through the neighborhood, and a
handwritten note in my mailbox from the MoveOn people
telling me to check in with them after the polls, to make
completely sure that I'd voted, or else. But then, it was
the new-voter students who decided the election here, so I
suppose they made a good fight. (Even though they ran out of
stickers.)

I think Bush will continue to fuck things up to such an
extent that Jeb wouldn't stand a chance in 2008, not that
he's interested anyway.

I guess the likeliest contest in 2008 will be Clinton v
Giuliani, but that's a long way off and lots will happen
before then.

all of russia. who wouldn't love to get a hand on one of
those and just drop in the heart of the financial district
in manhattan.

we polarize as a non-secular state. we lose the PR campaign
to osama. he gets the official holy war that he has had a
hardon for since he was 9. we alienate the rest of the
world. the war on islam bankrupts the US. we fall. the
world's economy collapses. global anarchy. everyone has
their own personal nuke. WWIII. we lose.

i never said "new" i said its an escalating problem as more
countries develop nuclear capabilities. instead of certain
countries using plutonium for electrical purposes they
enrich it to gain arms. i think there needs to be
accountability or a complete freeze, especially for
countries like iran and n.korea.

offline danbrusca from Derbyshire (United Kingdom) on 2004-11-03 07:07 [#01380971]
Points: 4570 Status: Lurker | Followup to ChildrenTalking: #01380969

There isn't really any escalation though. North Korea and
Iran may have aspirations to acquire nuclear weapons, but
there isn't really any firm evidence North Korea has and
Iran certainly hasn't. It's a long way from that to actually
having deployable weapons and it's not a situation that's
out of control.

well i'm not going to get into a heavy debate on whether or
not proliferation exists but its reported north korea went
from 2 to 4 nuclear warheads upto 6 to 8 (around those
figures). all i'm saying it just doesn't seem feasible at
least politically speaking that a women will become
president of the united states. war's are primarily driven
for power and those who hunger for it are the male species.
women by nature are pacifist. (excuse my spelling)

I'm not sure what to predict, but none of it will be good. I
honestly can't see anything positive for the US or the rest
of the world from the re-election of Bush.

The second term is about legacy building. I reckon that the
neo-cons would like to see Bush's legacy as being a
spreading of democracy around the middle east, but Bush
isn't a neo-con and regardless of his record so far, I
expect his prority will be to make his mark with social
policy at home.

So you still expect to be at war in Iraq in 2008?

i would assume once iraq gains troops on the ground
significantly, around 150,000+ the U.S. will start to pull
back. we might also go to war with Iran eventually if they
do not adhere to U.S. warning. i dont know how we're going
to deal with N.Korea because that porn nut Kim Jong Il has
the arms to cause massive destruction all across the U.S.
the thought is terrifying. if bilateral talks do not work i
think we'll have a very nasty war in our hands. the likes
we've never seen in the 20th century. with a push of a
button hundreds of thousands of u.s. and korean casualties
are subdued to a pulp. at least thats what i think dont take
my word for it.

I doubt very much that the US will go to war with Iran, not
least because it would destroy the economy after Iraq.
What's Iraq going to cost by the time it's all over, $250
billion? $300 billion? More? There can be no doubt that Iran
would be a more difficult adversary than Iraq and
consequently much more costly to overcome.

I don't see much of a threat from North Korea. The country
is a basket case. They might put up a brief, intense fight,
but would be defeated quickly.
