i'd like to make music outdoors with a pc... anyone of you
know how good soundcards can i get for one?

(sorry for my bad english)

You can get VERY good ones, but generally tend to be quite a
bit more expensive than desktop cards.

Of note:

RME Audio - Project Hammerfall

Try a macintosh, no soundcard crap to deal with.

that would be awesome... I can just imagine being on a beach
with the sun going down making music... that would be
inspiring...

Reflex: depending what quality sound you want, even on a mac
you will eventually have to upgrade to a third party
soundcard. :)

Well, not if you get the goods.... goods.... a pc you just
need one anyway to do that sorta stuff well.

uh.. where exactly are you planning to install an additional
sound card in a laptop?
they dont have pci slots or anything.. can u get card
upgrades for them still?

if i had the money, i would use one of those beautiful
PowerBook G4s... i think they're basically the most
powerful/cool laptops on the planet, and they're encased in
titanium! 15inch screen..

Those are amazing, a friend of mine got one a few weeks ago.
Stunning.

ya i know.. but they cost like 3600 canadian..
and full featured, they're almost 6000!

the desktop g4s are amazing though.. especially for more
demanding applications like music/video/graphics..
and they're wll made too.. the way the case just swings
open

apple actually makes some nice machines.. too bad they're
not compatible w/ a lot of stuff.. and they're sort of
over-priced

AMinal:

Pcmia or something slots - card bus.

The G4 (and old G3) laptops have got them .. but the iBook
unfortunately is lacking .. altho one could hook up a MotU
(forget the number) firewire external sound thing. No need
for soundcard. And has like 8 audio in/out?!

PC's arent made for anything specific, Macs are.
