He took his own life, but it'll be debated forever, even if
we found some film of it. ''Photoshopped!''.

Basment is a pretty good album, it's too bad he STABBED
HIMSELF IN THE HEART. I do think his legacy is pretty
accurate, though... he had pretty much levelled out and
showed us what he could do, but it's still a shame that he
couldn't do more of that.

albums ha ha.

Personally, I think he died.

I like his first two albums very muchly, "roman candle" and
the untitled one - almost completely acoustic, I like that
more than when he plays with a complete band.

I dunno. I just know, I feel it in my heart (!). I trust in
criminal investigators, I guess. They've got all kinds of
gadgets and tricks and thingamabobs, and if that broad
really had something to do with it, chances are, they'd
know. The odds are heavily stacked against the conspiracy
theories.

The guy was a sad panda, when I heard it, it seemed natural.

I'm not saying they're faultless, but with today's advances
in technology, the chances that he WAS murdered and they're
wrong are exceedingly small. There's zero good evidence to
suggest otherwise, and THEY know a lot more of the story
than we do. I'll even bet my tentacles on this.

Heh, I had to delete and repost this as well. Jeepers
creepers.

If i was around 20% more angsty, i would probably weep over
a picture of him at night whilst writing terrible, terrible
poetry.

yeah. Most of my faovourite artist have commited suicide like
Joy Division singer Ian Curtis or Nick drake(and whos story
is like Elliott Smith they arent sure by the death
reason)and The Sound lead artist who produced most of there
stuff called Adrian Borland

While engaged in recording sessions for another solo record,
the depression-prone Borland succumbed to nagging mental
illness by throwing himself underneath a train on April 26,
1999. In a letter to his fans written only a month prior,
Borland exuded enthusiasm in his new efforts, making his
passing all the more sad.

i remember speaking to medschool friends about this back

painful -- basically an instant, massive heart attack.

Yikes. I can't imagine stabbing yourself in the heart would
be anything less than painful though.

Also, even having heard very little of elliot smith's music,
it's sad and strange that most of this thread is about how
he killed himself.

I remember when i first heard of his death on the radio.
They anounced his death and then played the incredibly
beautifull "Angeles". I was at work and i had to fight back
my tears. What a crappy day it was...

I think he was murdered . Article

"several aspects of the circumstances (as are known at
this time) are atypical of suicide and raise the possibility
of homicide. These include the absence of hesitation wounds,
stabbing through clothing, and the presence of small incised
wounds on the right arm and left hand (possible defensive
wounds)."

Coroner’s investigators also raised questions about the
actions of Chiba, and why she removed the knife. "Detectives
believe that this death is possibly suspicious, however, the
circumstances are unclear at this time," according to the
report.

tracks rather than the ones with a full band (as someone
said allready). I like the way they are recorded too.

there will be a new 2cd compilation out in the 8th of may
with (mostly) unreleased elliott smith material called
"new moon". the majority of this stuffed leaked out 2005
(and some of it later) and is on the "basement II demos".
i'm looking forward to hearing this properly mastered
though.

There's an unfinished song called 'True Love' which I think
was recorded in the Basment... sessions, I recommend it.
Although its pretty sad to think about what he's singing
about. Oh well, one can be objective about these things.
