drunken is right on in this case.
the two parties are very alike because they do anything/everything to maintain that only THEY (the 2 parties) have control at one time ... and not a 3rd

dear mr. elusive,
i am not entirely sure what you mean by 'that'. are you referring to the increased funding alotted to the nea by the bush administration? if so, i am entirely of the opinion that such a funding increase is a good thing, and would like to take this opportunity to affirm partisan alliance with the nea. i do not, however, seem to recall denouncing such a funding increase, leading me to suspect that the accusation implicit in your question borders on libel. however, if you are referring to the unfortunate state of vulgar stupidity most of our species is subject to, i am on the whole rather dismayed by it, and take its undesireability to be self-evident.
sincerely,
mr. h. cycling

He has STRENGTH and RESOLVE.
Military is retarded. We didn't have a standing military until after WWII.
They spend billions on bombers, but school kids have to hold bake sales for supplies.
That's fucked. Bush is a fucking moron. Kerry isn't much better.

Anyone who votes for anything but Kerry this election is really just voting for bush. If you want Bush gone, its not good enough to not vote for him, you have to vote for the person closest to winning, which is Kerry.

zaphod (and others), you ask for a defense of bush that doesn't include "terrorism", "god" or "security". that's a bit like asking for a reason to eat food that doesn't include "hunger", "nourishment" or "pleasure". americans are voting for bush precisely because they feel threatened by a strong surge of violence against the west, and against the america in particular as emblematic of western ideologies. lots of americans maintain that the idea that american exploitation has bred this kind of hatred is absurd, and that this hatred stems from a profound ideological difference between the west and the islamic world. as such, they would like to see whatever elements that are hostile to them systematically eliminated. they feel that kerry's position is dangerously conciliatory at a time when america should be forceful and focused. i don't, for the large part agree with them, but i think there's a strong case to be made for that view, and it's definitely not as preposterous as some people here seem to think.

I really can't see why so many feel they need to "remind" other people to vote, or tell them who to vote for. These people who are being addressed shouldn't be voting if they need a reminder, or some kind of recommendation/reason as to who to vote for, if that isn't already completely apparent to them.
