it's great,

you can play co-op, and it's a fucking brilliant way to play
the game through

some reason

the crack i had didn't like xp, so i never played it past
level 3 or so. awesome game, though.

heh, doom 3 borrowed *heavily* from ss2 in terms of game
elements and the way things were structured. doom3 scary
was more "argh fuck it jumped out at me from nowhere",
whereas ss2 played psychological-fuck games with your mind.

Yeah scary as fuck that one. I only rented it so I didn't
get very far, probably would've had a heart attack had I
bought it and played on.

I actually played through this and beat it last summer, once
I got the CD-ROM via mail. The music actually makes the game
a little more comfortable to play through, though it's still
scarier than most other PC games in existence.

I'm thinkin about playing it again. I don't really see much
use for the Psi-Amp though.

I played it on XP. It's just weird about dual processors.
And I think you have to configure your Windows settings to
classic settings or something along those lines. There's
other odd minutae too, depending on what machine you're
running SShock2 on. There's more tech
discussion/compatibility info on that here.

when you play it, turn the music off, the spaceship ambience
works best.

It's a great game, but nothing beats Deus Ex for me. I
prefer the cyberpunk/street environment to the
claustrophobic spaceship of SS2. But still... both are
absolute classics and I only hope Bioshock can meet or
exceed them.

i tried playing deus ex again a short while back, it was
really, really wank :-/

it's all about the original soldier of fortune, where iraqi
civilians don't actually count as innocents.

The initial mission is really quite poor and I think it puts
a lot of people off the game. Honestly, once you get past
that and start to progres further in the game, you realise
just how superb it is. The Hong Kong stage in particular is
quite simply one of the greatest gaming experiences I have
ever witnessed... and awesome music too!

where you have to break in and steal some sort of data from
the computer mainframe?

i vaguely remember that, and then being ambused in some
courtyard.

Oh in DX, you're pretty much breaking into some building and
stealing data nomatter which country you're in. Hong Kong is
all about the Lucky Money club and the dancing girls. Oh,
and blowing Maggie Chows face off.

this talk of co-op made me interested

is it like the halo co-op or more actually cooperative
co-op?

Deus Ex, wank? What. Ever. The story and atmosphere are just
so nice. Like a lot of older 3D games, it DOES have a lot of
annoying gameplay quirks, though.

System Shock 2 was great, a little too great because I don't
think Bioshock will be able to match it, from what I've
seen.

was a big disappointment.
