there is a four tet tour in finland, and the helsinki gig
is sold out, but there is still tickets for the gig in a
smaller town. is four tet a must-see live? should i try to
get myself into one of these gigs although it might cost me
alot?

I've heard a live recording of him and it was pretty shit.
I've also heard a lot of bad reviews from people at xlt.
It's just his tracks with a load of glitchy noise over the
top. Impossible to enjoy.

so it wont probably be worth the hassle to travel 120 km and
pay over 30 euros.

i know someone who saw him open for radiohead. said he was
decent, didn't really measure up to his records though.
sounds a bit of a hassle for what might just be a mediocre
show.

nowadays.

I saw him live when he was touring with Prefuse 73 in
Detroit. Had to sit through him to get to Scott Herron.

It was the worst electronic show i have ever sat through.
You could barely hear the music which because he burried it
under Merzbow-style noise.

His albums are so chilled out, i expected the show to be
similar. But instead he pummled his poor audience with high
pitched squeeling and ear-drum piercing noise.

Then when his set was over, I swear he gave a really dirty
look to the audience.

this was in Seattle, last year maybe? It is possible he has
improved his show since then.

I agree with keyfumbler: if you've the money then go instead
of wasting your time on the cough watching TV, on the other
hand; i saw him live once, and i would not travel 120km and
spend 30 euros to see him again, i wouldnot even go if it
was 30 eurocents and 120 meters travelling

Four tet live isn't exactly a funk extavaganza, it's more
like his tracks but not as good. Too much uncontrolled
'noise' that doesn't add in my opinion.

he's shite live, imo

however i'm going to hijack this thread to say that
his compilation for the latenighttales series is mindblowing.
the best thing i've heard in ages.

yeah, i know :(

ok, tracklisting then

1. Rahsaan Roland Kirk - Haunted Feelings
2. Koushik – Battle Rhymes For Battle Times
3. Hal Blaine - Wiggy (November)
4. Manfred Mann Chapter Three - One way glass
5. Terry Riley – Music For The Gift (Part 2)
6. Max Roach – January V
7. Tortoise – Why We Fight
8. Gravediggaz - 2 Cups of Blood
9. Joe Henderson - Earth
10. Linda Perhacs – Parallelograms
11. Four Tet – Castles In The Sand
12. Jef Gilson and Malagasy - Valiha Del
13. Madvillain – Strange Ways (Koushik’s remix)
14. Smoke – Griffo
15. Fairport Convention - Tale In Hard Time
16. John Saunders – Tinkle
17. Icarus - Benevolent Incubator
18. Manitoba - 218 Beverley
19. ’Dont’s’ -(taken from) Bits and Bobs by David
Shrigley.

the koushik, joe henderson, and fairport tracks in
particular are amazing, as well as kieran's own cover of a
hendrix track. but what's really great about it is he picks
all sorts of stuff from all sorts of genres, and yet it
flows beautifully. just like you'd expect four tet to do.

i saw him live and really enjoyed his set. Don't remember
