Kalx on 2002-01-26 06:52 [#00075036]

tell me if it's worth purchasing? are they any good?

digidogheadlock from under a rock on 2002-01-26 06:58 [#00075037]

i just got thier 'music has the right to children' album
about a week ago and i like most of the album.. sixtyten and
rue the whirl stand out for me.

Rustopher Krussel from New York on 2002-01-26 07:00 [#00075039]

their music is definately worth buying. music has the right
to children...excellent album.

geogaddi is coming out soon...

Kalx on 2002-01-26 07:17 [#00075045]

are Boards of Canada kind of like Autechre, or is a
completely different sound?

digidogheadlock from under a rock on 2002-01-26 07:24 [#00075046]

different in my opinion. BoC are more experimental w/
sounds. just go to cdnow.com and sample some tracks off
thier album w/ windows media player.

Xanatos from NYC on 2002-01-26 07:25 [#00075047]

completely different sound
its repetitive like Ae but its more soothing, like warm
nostalgic synths rather than crackly beats..
Buy music has the right to children, its a fantastic album.

Kalx on 2002-01-26 07:29 [#00075048]

Sounds to me like buying Boards of Canada is a good
idea...thanks for you help.

laughable butane bob on 2002-01-26 07:40 [#00075049]

Boards of canada is not more experimental than autechre or
aphex or squarepusher. baords of canada is actually more
accessible than autechre and most aphex, and far more
accessible than squarepusher.

boards of canada is basically their own twist on trip-hop,
with some influence from aphex and autechre. the new promo
track sounds like they are adding some tribal house type
style, which is hardly new and was done to death in the
early 90's. that doesnt mean it is bad thou.

Intruder from chicago on 2002-01-26 07:46 [#00075050]

Any human being with a pulse will fall in love with boards
of canada the second you hear them.

these two bastards will comandeer your audio system.
In fact, you might as well buy everything you can find by
them now, as it will save you the trip later on.

and while your at it, get cylob's cylobian sunset. makes you
feel all warm inside, just like boc.

canerfold from minneappleseed on 2002-01-26 07:58 [#00075051]

Music is not a matter of original, experimental, technical.
It is a matter of personal feeling (imo). Download some
tracks and decide whether or not you like them. I love
Boards of Canada.

titsworth_courier from washington, dc on 2002-01-26 08:10 [#00075053]

just don't let them deny your right to listen to Boards of
Canada

Ophecks from Nova Scotia on 2002-01-26 18:03 [#00075087]

BOC is gorgeous, worth every cent.

I've never spent a penny on them, myself. ;-)

Nazi Pokemon from UK on 2002-01-26 18:11 [#00075092]

boards of canada are rubbish

Ironlung from A Beautiful Place Out In The Country on 2002-01-26 18:14 [#00075094]

BOC....man its not even worth arguing about....They are on a
whole different level....They are NOTHING like Autechre, Tom
Or Rich.....
Get anything and everything you can....steal it, dowload it,
hell even if it comes to it, buy it....

Ophecks from Nova Scotia on 2002-01-26 18:16 [#00075097]

Nah, don't buy it... the SOUNDS are what's important... you
can hear what you need to hear via MP3.

Save your money for a helicopter or hovercraft, that's what
I'm doing! :-D

Ironlung from A Beautiful Place Out In The Country on 2002-01-26 18:21 [#00075100]

I totally agree Ophecks....I also have not paid one penny
for BOC, yet have almost all of their stuff and cannot stop
listening to it....

There's no doubt, those guys rule.....

titsworth_courier from washington, dc on 2002-01-26 18:53 [#00075103]

don't you guys miss having the album artwork?

also, i'm sure you realize, mp3 compression gets rid of
so-called "unnecessary" sounds - so it's not true cd
quality, there is distortion. personally i don't like having
an encoder tell me what is and isn't important in a song. i
DO notice the difference... don't you?

zetre on 2002-01-26 21:36 [#00075123]

Speaking of artwork, doesn´t the cover of Geogaddi and the
one on the new Chemical Brothers record look an awful lot
like each other?
(yes they do)

Monoid on 2002-01-26 21:58 [#00075133]

Im a bit disapointed in the new Geoagddi art coverrrr,
anyway i ordered it today

balthus from europe on 2002-01-27 12:54 [#00075330]

yes, i was also a bit dissapointed of the geogaddi cover...
after that beautiful beautiful place ep cover (and the
artwork of the vinyl is great, too), and i really hope, that
the new album is as good as this ep. (if it would, it would
be an incredible album).

listened to excerpts from the hi scores ep. - wow. the track
hi scores has the same feel (and almost same beginning) of
philip glass' organic from koyaanisqatsi (a kind of an urban
or suburban melancholy). beautiful. hope i will be able to
get the cd somehow (because of it's artwork, and if i love
some music i want it on an album, and not in mp3s). hi
scores sounds a bit like the suburban equivalent to the
countryside beautiful place ep.

my suggestion for a first buy of boc would be the ep. in a
beautiful place out in the country. it seems it is not loved
by anyone, which is surprising to me - i loved it instantly.
it's essential and the price of it is great.

balthus from europe on 2002-01-27 12:56 [#00075331]

of course i meant not 'anyone' but 'everyone'. sorry.

Loogie from UK on 2002-01-27 21:34 [#00075394]

seek out the hell interface tracks that were on the mask
EPs. awesome
why don't they re-release that suff on CD???

Intruder from chicago on 2002-01-28 02:45 [#00075500]

right. good call.

BUT, DONT check out the Hell Interface stuff on the whack
ass V/VM Xmas ep. its just LAME.

Ophecks from Nova Scotia on 2002-01-28 03:08 [#00075521]

Titsworth- I know MP3s are lower quality... but it's not an
issue with me... it sounds great regardless. I have the
official Drukqs and a burned Drukqs with my fave tracks, and
on headphones, I'm hard pressed to tell the difference. As
long as it's not some 64 or 96kbs crap file, it sounds
great.

As for the artwork... I'd prefer it... but no fucking way am
I shelling out 20 or more dollars for something ISN'T music.
Not having pictures of Rich's nose and his brother's grave
doesn't exactly make me lose sleep. :-)

(just an example, matter of fact, Drukqs and the RDJA are
the ONLY official IDM albums I have.)

Loogie from UK on 2002-01-28 12:17 [#00075628]

Intruder: agreed. silent night bollocks.

Korona is great... find it!

canerfold from minneappleseed on 2002-01-28 17:21 [#00075684]

The cover art for Geogaddi is so great. I don't understand
the disapointment.

I am so sick of my mp3 quality albums! I've been buying
more music lately, which is good and bad.

Monoid on 2002-01-28 17:24 [#00075688]

The cover is lame, it looks like some cheap Hippie Poster !
They r milking their "Nature-Man-70s" Image to much....Lets
hope the music is GOOD !

canerfold from minneappleseed on 2002-01-28 18:18 [#00075706]

Oh no! Not beautiful trees! Those are so seventies. And
the Sun? The Sun lost its magnificance(sp?) in the early
pagan days.

digidogheadlock:

I don't know how you can get more experimental than
Confield. I think Confield is far more experimental than
anything Boards of Canada has done; but don't get me wrong.
Boards of Canada is wonderful.

Taxi on 2002-01-28 21:51 [#00075762]

>different in my opinion. BoC are more experimental w/
sounds.

That just kinda made me gasp... cause I think that Ae is
more experimental in both sounds, and song structure. But
BoC seem to have some strange recording technique that no
one else has.

spriggan on 2002-01-28 22:33 [#00075769]

_music_for_children_'s first chords are very analog-y and
moog-y, which turned me off at first. that what you mean by
'strange recording techniques'? it wasn't until i heard
songs like _an_eagle_in_your_mind_ and _telephasic_workshop_
that i really started to like the album. i would recommend
it to any IDM or ambient fan, but it's definitely different
from the style of the aphex twin / square pusher / autechre
holy trinity.
