I just moved to Toronto after 10 years in Montreal. What
are you interested in? I'll give you some recommendations -
just give me an idea what it is you're looking for....

L8s,
ttb

Well firstly I want to play live. Second I would like to
meet some like minded people, so I figured a cool electronic
bar would be a nice start. Also I was thinking of trading in
some of my gear for some other things, so I have been
looking for a cool second hand music equipment place.

Thanks a lot man I am very thankful : )

Whats your email address? Mine is in my profile if you would
like to send me some more info meng!

Sent this to your email - but just in case...

As I'm sure you know by now, St. Laurent (aka The Main) is
the most happening strip in town. You'll find most of the
bars/pubs there. Below Prince Arthur is a little too posh
for my tastes - lots of House music and people dressed to
the 9s. If you start on St. Laurent you can't go too far
wrong.

IDM nights are hard to come by. Here's a few suggestions
for nights to check out:

Jungle/DnB
Wednesdays at The Jupiter Room (on St. Laurent, west side a
block or two north of Ave Des Pins) - This night is just
getting started. It was pretty slow the first few weeks,
but it might blossom into something.
Fridays at Blue Dog (on St. Laurent, west side a block south
of Duluth) - popular jungle night great vibe when it's busy
Also monthly Cafe Chaos has a jungle night - the last one I
went to was pretty small but amazing.

Dub/Reggae
Wednesdays at Blizzarts (right beside Blue Dog) - good night
if you're into more reggae than Bob Marley.

IDM
Missy Bar on Tuesday (corner Mount Royal and Laval) - small
pub but there's some dudes there on Tuesdays playing
Autechre, Prefuse and other IDM stuff. Can occasionally be
really good.

Check the weeklys (Mirror and Hour) for shows. David
Kristian is amazing live and he's a Montrealer. If you have
a chance, check him out. Also, my buddy Black Market plays
now and then - he's got some killer tracks - check the mp3s
at http://www.openface.ca/~blakem/blackmarket/
-----
If you just want to go for a drink somewhere check:

Grimy but charming
--------------------
Bifteck - St. Laurent just below Pins - west side
Roy Bar - skater bar - Roy two blocks west of St. Denis
Miami - St. Laurent above Pins - east side above the dollar
store

A little classier
---------------
Laika - St. Laurent west side just above Duluth
Bily Kun - Mont Royal just west of St. Denis

i was just in mtl for 3 weeks.
i dont know i didnt go out much to bars really.
i saw some pretty awsome shows, both as part of the pop mtl
festival and not.
i saw octavius/daedelus/her space holiday who were all
excellent,
ulrich schnauss/m83 which were both amazing (ulrich played
one handed the whole time- he had just broke his left hand),

morceaux_de_machines/Mixel Pixel/books on tape morceaux....
was cool, two guys doing pretty interesting hardware based
noise, mixel pixel sucked and were anoying but they had some
neat video stuff going on, and books on tape was really
good, he deffinitly knew what he was doing.
i got to see the dears in their hometown as well and they
put on an amazing show as allways. i also saw animal
monster/the cansecos/the russian futurists, the only one i
really liked was animal monster, hes a cool guy apparently
from toronto who did some need electronic stuff with
hardware, i wasnt really impressed by the other two acts.
as for record stores, i was kind of surprised theres not
much great. theres cd esoterik down sort of the far end of
st. catherines, lots of experimental stuff but a really
small place, then theres cheap thrills near mcgill, more of
a variety , plus books. and atom heart on st.denis and
maisonouvre? i dont know, just look up some interesting
shows and see where you can buytickets, theyll list them
all. but im in little old victoria and we only have one
decent shop (which is actually really excellent) but i dont
think youd have any better chance finding something obscure
in mtl.

I sold the Dears my Korg Poly Six and my Realistic MOOG
hehehe. I kind of miss them but at the same time I kind of
don`t. Vintage synths are kind of like sports cars these
days. People have them to boost their egos.
