Dear Virginpusher,
Yes i do believe that only the inhabitants of Watmm and Xlt which support 90% of the IDM community are growing tired of the so called "pretencious" bullshit.

no you see, he inspired other people to make IDM (since he practically invented it), so any of the "IDM" artists you listened is a spawn of aphex. which directly brings the laugh to the source of aphex's powers.

Perhaps i could hear it from a friend. Perhaps that friends CD might interest me to look into it. Perhaps on my own findings i am not inclined to purchase thouands of dollars in vinal/CD's because none of these releases are that great.
I listen to everything by the way. Alot of punk/hardcore. Also Jazz, Classic Rock, Underground hiphop blah blah blah blah.
IDM is a genre that doesnt evolve. Just a bunch of bullshit. That is why you have 1000 artists ripping off 100 other artists using frooty loops trying to be signed by Rephlex. There hasnt been any upgrades to the genre recently.

you show me /any/ genre that's had any evolution as of late. i tend to agree with you, but i don't think this applies directly to idm.
there's still some great stuff being produced though, albeit based on older ideas.

"IDM" isn't really a genre, so how exactly is it suppose to evolve? it's kindof electronic music without boundaries if that's any way to describe it. if you judge good music in terms of evolution, how can you listen to all of the genres you just mentioned. they aren't evolving much either now are they?

well come to think of it, if anyone "invented" it first it would be kraftwerk. noone really invented it, it was just a silly saying. what i meant is that he's the most influential electronic music maker IMO, and i think alot of people agree with me on that.

idm=electronic music without boundaries well said
no genre, no categorizing, no pigeonholing is what all this music we like is about, so please stop using that stupid term which doesn't even describe something nor mean something relevant and just lead to people being able to say things like "XXX" is a dying genre, "YYY" isn't "XXX" because is kick isn't high-passed and WHAT IS YOUR FAV "XXX" ARTIST OF THE YEAR!!
aphex started making techno, ambient, breakbeat lfo made house, electro-pop, ae made electronica, ambient, merzbow was doing noise music, others made trance, 808 sate made acid-house blablalblabla
tell me all that is one big genre and you will look like an idiot, there is no IDM,
braindance if you will call some of rephlex releases like this but even...

yeah i know kraftwerk weren't the first ones creating electronic music, because there were experiments prior to that. however they were the first big influence on the evolution of electronic music.

one of the earliest must have been stockhausen, his 'elektronische musik 1952-60' came twenty years before the first kraftwerk. that doesn't say much about his influence, still.
