I LOVE getting into a special new band and rummaging through their work...
Getting into Beatles was enlightening, every new album I bought was a joy, every one of them was so different from the others, it was surprise after surprise. (except Beatles For Sale, that album sucks)
And hearing all Aphex's stuff was great. An adventure, like the Beatles. (of course, RDJ is shit compared to Lennon, but who isn't?)
I miss that... never being able to be a ''new'' Beatlemaniac or Aphexhead.
Anyway, I wish I could go back in time and erase all knowledge about the Beatles and Aphex and others, cuz nothing I've heard since Aphex (a little over a year ago, now) gives me that same feeling.

I'm right into world music now... It doesn't seem many people are interested on this board, but I posted a topic on Afro Celt Sound System, and didn't get a single response, but if you're interested in checking out some freaked out music, check out their new album Further in Time... also, Passion by Peter Gabriel is friggin awesome... I've seen a few posts agreeing with my feelings about Passion on this board anyways...

Further in Time, it's like a cross between Braveheart, Survivor, Passion, Daft Punk (maybe, think of some dancy electronic artist), and it's quite good... check out the song Silken Whip I believe it's called... it's great... also, Collosus is very cool as well...

I have this ancient disco/world music cd called voyage. They are french. It is totally dope.
But world music just sounds way too pretensious for me right now. Thats just my opinion. My interest in world stops at Axiom records.
I am listening to team dobyi's cryptoburners right now. Highly suggested.
Also, Chris Ochre has been sending out copies of his new cd, and that is beyond lush. You can find him in mp3.com

Well, I've ''rummaged'' through all AE's stuff, and they are amazing... but it isn't the same feeling. Aphex was more surprising, hearing all his phases and styles.

Boards of Canada, Mu-Ziq, Squarepusher... the really big established IDM artists, they're all amazing, but it's just not the same.
My major phases were Metallica (heh), Black Sabbath/Ozzy, Led Zeppelin, Radiohead, Pink Floyd, The Beatles, Aphex, in that order.
These are the only bands/artists I got that ''feeling'' from.

I don't know if any non-Canadians on here have heard of The Tea PArty, but they're a good World music band, who it's probably far to say, have never been put into that category... but their Edges of Twilight album is indian rock music.., sitars, and all that good stuff with all out rock music... it's great... I guess they were the ones who sparked my interest in Indian music, and from there other music from around the world... check out the song Sister Awake, it's a great song...

Scam is more or less Autechres record label.
One of the neat things about autechre is the context of the music changes when you play with the different variations of the pronunciation of their name.
When you think of it like (Oh-tech-er) it seems more mechanical and detached. When you think of it like (Au-tech-ra) it takes on a more human tone. And their programing is tighter than anything else out there. Its soooo good. Beautiful.

I really got that feeling with otto von schirach 8000 bc. when I first listened to samples from cdnow.com I knew it was insane at least but didn't know how it would hold up. then I recieved it in the mail and the cover of some little guy with a bionic hand and a foolish grin was wicked. then I opened it up, and it smelled totally weird, unlike any other cd I purchased, maybe it has weird smelling ink or the manufacturing process of this cd included just the right perfume applied to the booklets, then I looked at the booklet's insane picture and knew that this was something special, something very unique and wicked, the sound was insanely detailed and intricate autechre but went in a cut and paste squarepusher style. escalo frio didn't have the same impact so far. I'll probably buy everything he does now that I've heard 8000 bc.

it is a great feeling finding something really great for the first time like that ...
i've been having it all year ..with squarepusher, boc, prefuse 73, cex...tons
most recently when i got rotor+'s album 'aileron'
now that i've gotten into most of the big name idm artists..i've begun to branch out into finding lesser known artists and getting into different types of music like hip hop and such..
im actually in the process of checking out a bunch of new artists right now...isan, cim, manitoba, lustmord...all pretty impressive so far...i can tell that remaining $40 on my credit card isnt going to last very long...

I'm in the process of downloading Cim- Reference, heard he was good.
I know what you mean, I'm branching out lately into the more obscure artists... but the thing is, their libraries aren't as vast... Aphex's is HUGE, that's what I mean by exploring their stuff, I guess. He's the head honcho, the innovator, and is so varied. As great as Autechre and BOC are, they were more predictable for me, every album was similar to the previous one. It wasn't like Aphex, who reinvents himself time after time. Hearing SAW1, SO different from SAW2, then the contrast between ICBYD and RDJ... then there's the early 4/4 stuff... Now Drukqs, which I think outdoes everything else... I guess RDJ and the Beatles are the only artists that have ever really affected me, they were each a epiphany for me. Kind of the kings of their respective genres.
The Beatles... don't even get me started on them. ;-)

I guess mp3s kind of ruined everything. The feeling of finding and aphex on vinyl you've never gotten to hear before because you couldn't find it is probably more amazing.
Don't worry about going back on Aphex tho Ophecks, there are fucking thousands of artists. I'm even starting to think, that even though Aphex Twin is the best electronic artist of all time, some others are kinda on the same plateau as he is, they just didn't quite make it for whatever reason, maybe how they marketed themselves, or maybe just luck. Although I hate to compare them, there are a thousand girls auditioning for girl bands who look just like britney spears and have just as much (or lack thereof) talent, they just don't make it for whatever reason.
The point is...

About MP3s... I dunno... to me, PERSONALLY, it's not different than buying the albums, it hasn't hurt the enjoyment at all. I can definitely understand how someone could rather the record... but it's not an issue with me.

yeah, when I was first getting into Aphex Twin over the summer, I had the RDJ album bought, and I had read up on his other albums, and I heard ICBYD was his masterpiece... anyways, when I went to the record store and actually found it there, boy what a thrill... and then I played it on the way home, and I must've listened to Alberto Balsalm 2 or 3 times... it was great... that's one of the reasons why I love buying cds... it's the whole experience...

i really dont depend that much on mp3s...i usually just download a few tracks from an artist..at the most ..and then try and find the album..
a lot of my more recent purchases were made without even hearing the artist prior...like the rotor+ album...i wasnt even sure what to expect when i got it...so i was pleasantly surprised when i actually listened to it..
