first act -- junior boys --

they sound very hipsterish so i thought it would be a bunch
of long-haired lanky indie rockers but it was a
beardy-weirdy funny fat guy in wide pants kinda having a
ball. the tickets said the show starts at 9:30.. it was a
misprint.. junior boys started at 9, so there was barely
anyone there. i was one of two people dancing, probably..
sounded almost identical to album version, still kinda
nice.. they tried to get the crowd clapping a couple of
times but didn't really work..

second act -- ratatat --

i haven't heard them before, they're kinda 80s metal ballad
kitsch meets daft punk. they were extremely LOUD and very
new yorkish, tossed some things about in typical rockstar
antics, just seemed to have a ball, was fun but not very
danceable.. something to listen to when feeling somewhat
cheesy and wanton i guess..

third & final act -- mouse on mars --

totally blew me away. three guys: one on bass, drum machine
and various gadgets.. another very cool guy with an afro on
the drums and singing crazily usually with heavy distortion
and the main man behind a table with two or three laptops
and wayyyy too many cables.. he was the guy that did most of
the talking between songs.. mostly very brief, germanic and
kinda funny..

"if you stop clapping we don't get paid, you know"

or after something failed to intialize

(german accent) "there are... weasels... messing with our
equipment... weasels everywhere..."

music was AMAZING, lots of drum improv craziness, songs that
seem to die and end and then just EXPLODE.. a lot of people
were dancing (well, for vancouver).. i was right at the
front.. they did a big encore and people were stomping on
the floor to get them to come back but sonar
couldn't/wouldn't... one of the best live shows i've ever
seen..
