hello Here is the very first produced and mastered maudlin track. Hope you guys have a listen to this, a lot of time and effort has been put into it and i would love to hear comments regarding the song, in particularly comments re song writing and production would be most helpful. But anyway, here is the first maudlin track, finished and blah blah
Maudlin - Often Times 4mins 35secs (128/44) music by : Maudlin Maudlin are : stephanie lees (vocals), james alexander (piano, programming), noah wilson (programming), briony lutrell (cello, double bass) & jack hicks (drums).
mixed and mastered by maudlin at QUT studios. 2004.

incredible stuff, i thought there was alot of tension between the instruments which made it very interesting, but i dont really know much about this kinda music, i just know lamb sux and you guys rox. i could hardly hear the piano during the song, but that would have been too much upon all the other instruments, though they're all subtle.
i guess if this was planned as a single you might better go for a more rocky track, for commercial reasons. but i dont know anything and you have thought this all up already

cheers mate this is actually a really odd track for us to have finished first, its the one that has come together the quickest. mainly because our drummer jack doesnt play on this one, and it was basically written in the space of a couple hours between me, stephanie and briony. a lot of our other tracks some of which were written long before this one are still being fine tuned in the songwriting process... we have one song "optimistic" (nothing to do with rhead) which is really upbeat and even somewhat poppy, which is the obvious "single" choice... but anyway... yeah... bit worried we come across like lamb etc etc, im really glad you liked it. thankyou :)

i see what you mean, but i would expect it to have a fair bit of appeal here it is heavily electronica influenced... at least i think it sounds that way :)

it sure does, but it's such a good blend that it didnt stick out for, also i knew to expect that. was that noah wilson involved in your project before btw? and the cellist and drummer? wasnt it just you and the vocalist before?

i really dig it except the vocals, some times it seems like she's concentrating on some notes that dont really go with the rest of the song
also i get too much of a björk vibe sometimes from the way she uses her voice
over all though really good

me and the vocalist stephanie write the songs, jack and briony are session musicians who are now part of the live lineup and noah wilson (whom i worked with on the hyper hotel komatsu project) has become pretty much the producer... dealing with the tech side. we like to consider ourselves a band tho.

your not the first person to criticise the vocalist... despite the fact that im completely smitten with her voice, i do understand why people would have a problem. some reasons would be her age, shes only 18, she has a lot of maturing to do vocally, and she is still finding her style. depite that, i think shes incredible anyway...

well it's not her voice thats a problem at all, she has a great voice, its just that i think she's not using it the right way... does that make sense?

not really... shes a proper jazz trained vocalist, and for me to pass judgement on how she should use her voice, isnt really my place to do so...

i didnt mean that to sound bitchy sorry, that wasnt my intention... it does make sense i guess, but shes trained, i am not, so she would know a lot more than me, and would probably not appreciate me telling her how to sing :)

i dunno her voice just doesn't go with the rest of the song in a few parts of it, like she's a note too high or something
