So who likes em? I don't own any albums of theres, but I do love many a song by them... I love Enjoy the Silence (listening to it now actually) and even Blasphemous Rumors is a excellent song, even though it's like totally against God and all that... :)

I remember one time in church the pastor was talking about the lyrics to Blasphemous Rumors and how they were evil... and then a few weeks later I heard the song, and I was like "Whoa, that's a sweet ass song!!!!" :)

Violator and Exciter are sweet! 'The dead of night' and' the sweetest condition' rock! Mark Bell is a wicked producer, the way he did Homogenic was perfect...Hunter is such an amazing track and the beat on '5 years' is unbelievable.
Did anyone check the new LFO tracks at Warp?
Sweeet!!

The LFO stuff should be nice but maybe this should be on the Warp board. Who's got the most money, Mark or Richard? I never thought about it before but there's lots of money in this electronic lark!
I hope the MEN remixes are a sign of what's to come from Richard, Club trax that work anywhere are the FUTURE!

black celebration and music for the masses are legendary albums..well ahead of their time..every song on "music for the masses "is brilliant but it also includes PIMPF..an awesome slow building orchestral piece which I believe predicts ICCT-HEDRAL

Richard asked Mute (depeche mode's labe;) for the master tapes to 'speak and spell' by depece mode as he wanted to play with their album recently. Check Mutes website.....

Depeche Mode were pretty cutting edge... they started in the early eigthies, maybe even the late 70's (not sure) playing electronic music... this was not much later then Kraftwerk... and they were popular...

I e-mail Luke at 'Mute' and he told me about Aphex asking for the depeche mode music for speak and spell. I'll ask him if he sent it.
Mark Bell was really lucky working with them, they have played the 'pop' business their way.
I'll post tomorrow

I'm listening to It's No Good right now, and goodness, what a sweet "pop" song huh? The beginning almost sounds like something Autechre would do, and then it breaks into the form of the song... I've always like this song, and it's pretty cool that it actually got on the charts...

Did Richard get the master tapes of speak and spell? Now that would be cool for Richard to remix 'just can't get enough'!
The tom sound in that track sounds just like the ring mod sounds richard uses.
That gives me an idea..................

Richards 'pop' is very similar to depeche mode where it's underground but appeals to so many people, I wish I could make tracks like that :(
This is my new project---
Overide AFX and Depeche Fame with cult status starting tomorrow.
OK, I'm starting tomorrow.

Old New Order (early to mid 80s) and Joy Division do not suck, sort of early proto-electronica along with Caberet Voltaire, though i must admit that alot of their stuff has become very dated, especially production wise.
New order were more 'intelligent' and more honest than Depeche Mode. Depeche Mode were posers, much more music industry.
Depeche mode can still be a guilty pleasure for some, and some of the singles are fun, but i always have that image of the lead singer snapping his fingers and dancing with his hands above his head and his booming insincere voice. ugh! and i always associate Depeche Mode with the fat chicks who liked them, and they thought they were real cool nitelife clubgoers.
someguy told me once that Depeche Mode had the money from the record companies to buy the newest synths, and just basically used the preset sounds uncreatively, but it sounded new and fresh because they were the first to use them. i don't know if that is completely true though.

I think my hatred for New Order stems from the fact that they pussied out. Joy Division was great...the unfortunate suicide death of Ian Curtis brought us New Order. I think they took the synth thing to a cheesy level.------>On May 3rd and 4th 1978, Joy Division recorded material for what was expected to be their debut-album "Joy Division". But John Anderson, one of the producers, put synths on the final mix. Ian went crazy, and the album was never released!
I think Bernard Sumner sucks me arse. I do, however, give him big ups for his guitar work with JD. Depeche Mode used the synth in a darker way...almost hauntingly at times. New Order isn't nearly as creative. The breathy singing can drive me nuts!
I think David Gahan's voice has become a little tired...he was pretty cool in the 80's-90's though.

anyone listen to Erasure? :)
No, but I ask the question cause the main member of the old old Depeche Mode is in Erasure, and so I guess his music with Erasure and Depeche Mode is similar... shrug, I don't know... I haven't heard THAT much Depeche Mode... so I could be wrong...

the guy who wrote the first Depeche album, which was very poppy, left for some reason to form a band called Yaz or yazzo with some girl lead singer, and they made one album i think. then they broke up and the DP guy went and formed Erasure with some flaming gay guy who sings exactly like the girl from Yaz. Erasure has been around awhile i think i'm not sure why, copying trends in house, and all their songs sound pretty much exactly alike and annoying that i've heard. gay club type stuff. i know i sound like i'm bashing, but that "i'm an annoying flamer and i'm proud that i'm annoying" shit gets, well, annoying, especially if the music is pretty boring too.

as for New Order, i think their downfall was when Sumner started to think he was a pop star, he obvious doesnt really have popstar talent.
i've always used to really like Power Corruption and Lies and tracks like "your silent face", "leave me alone" and "5-8-6", and "everything's gone green". and of course Joy Division's Closer.
