Aphex 4 Girls

B3n from Sheffield on 2002-01-22 21:21 [#00073698]

A friend of mine wants to hear some of the music I listen to
(aka aphex) and she's female, so which do you think she
would find most enjoyable as an introduction? I'm not going
to start her on SAW2 or Drukqs or anything..

Big Clive aka Maximus Volumus aka Clive Cliveson from Clives Realm on 2002-01-22 21:27 [#00073700]

Try SAW85-92 or ICBYD. Then melt her.

pato de uva from Mexico City on 2002-01-22 21:34 [#00073702]

i think "Richard D. James Album" seems to be a gentle,
agreeable start to this kind of music.

Rob.E. from London on 2002-01-22 22:34 [#00073732]

What about "On"? It's got it's romantic side, what with
thunder and lightnin', coupled with a thumping
backdrop.Can't go wrong. }:>

B3n from Sheffield on 2002-01-22 22:37 [#00073734]

Haha, who said I was interested in her?

I think just a compilation would probably be best, that or
RDJ...maybe. hmmm

aperson on 2002-01-22 23:24 [#00073773]

Do this... IMO

1) Cordialotron (great song!)
2) Nannou
3) Matchsticks
4) Acrid Avid Jamshred
5) Girl/Boy song
6) Ageispolis
7) 4
8) Analogue Bubblebath
9) IZ-US
10) Vordhosbn (Get interesting)
11) On

Just my suggestion

B3n from UK on 2002-01-22 23:30 [#00073778]

Very good suggestions! Though I haven't got all I'll do most

umbriel from quebec...the old on 2002-01-22 23:30 [#00073779]

anything. really. if she is going to like his music, shes
going to like it. i mean, even if she doesnt have a good
first impression, if she is intrigued, she will try again.
see, i am a girl. the first time i heard richards music, i
thought it was too noisy and deconstructed. after weeks of
riping, i finally fell in love with bucephalus bouncing
ball. and that was it.
what was i saying?

B3n from UK on 2002-01-22 23:40 [#00073785]

Yeah, thing is, a lot of people don't have the same will
power if you see what I mean and could be put off something
they might otherwise enjoy if they give it more of a go, and
certainly some of his music is more accessible than other
stuff he's done.

The_Funkmaster from Newfoundland, Canada on 2002-01-22 23:42 [#00073786]

yeah, give her some ICBYD and start with Alberto Balsalm...
if she's gonna like anything, it'll be that song...

sumbawdy from canaida on 2002-01-22 23:52 [#00073794]

don't furget flim!

umbriel from quebec...the old on 2002-01-22 23:55 [#00073798]

even if you start off with the "accessible" stuff, she will
eventually hear the other stuff. do you want her to just
like the more "accessible" tracks? im just thinking here and
i dont really know what im saying. dont shoot me

Ophecks from Nova Scotia on 2002-01-22 23:56 [#00073801]

Rhubarb...

I can't stress this enough... it's the most beautiful track
ever.

B3n from UK on 2002-01-23 00:09 [#00073816]

Umbriel, the reason I got into the other stuff is probably
because I heard the accessible stuff first and got more and
more inquisitive..of which I'm glad =)

B3n from UK on 2002-01-23 00:19 [#00073825]

There's an aphex logo (its just disspeapered) where the 'e'
was next the the address bar...weird.

canerfold from minneappleseed on 2002-01-23 03:58 [#00073943]

rdj album is my non suggestion.

PowerPillPacman on 2002-01-23 04:36 [#00073952]

Or you could just say bollocks to it, and jump her straight
in with Come To Daddy and then perhaps shown her the demonic
faces in the mathematical equation track, thats how i got my
mate started.

B3n from Falkland Islands on 2002-01-23 18:30 [#00074144]

Bollocks, its so hard, I love so much aphex stuff!

Here it is so far..

Flim
On
Ageispolis
IZ-US
Avril 14th
Girl/Boy song
Alberto Balsalm
Nannou

I might put on Milkman, girls like lyrics.

The_Funkmaster from Newfoundland, Canada on 2002-01-23 19:11 [#00074158]

but if you start with something more accessible, she can
work her way through to the harder stuff...

B3n from Falkland Islands on 2002-01-23 20:41 [#00074188]

I thought flim *was* accessible

corngrower from Iowa on 2002-01-24 01:38 [#00074287]

Some good one's for girls:
Acrid jam shred
On the romance tip
IZ-US
Analogue Bubblebath
On (u-ziq mix)
Ageispolis
Heliosphan

corngrower from Iowa on 2002-01-24 01:39 [#00074288]

These are all pretty easily accesable songs in my opinion

FreakyNinoBrown from usass on 2002-01-24 02:35 [#00074301]

i find this thread sexist and highly offensive

...let us know if you hit it tho

AMinal from toronto, canada on 2002-01-24 02:41 [#00074302]

play her some nsync and tell her its aphex twin.. haha

JK.. im sure there are a lot of girls out there w/ very good
taste in music who could more than handle aphex twin..

The_Funkmaster from Newfoundland, Canada on 2002-01-24 03:07 [#00074314]

yes yes, Flim is... I was responding to Umbriel...

umbriel from quebec...the old on 2002-01-24 03:30 [#00074322]

i dont find this thread offensive but i do find it a
annoying that some of you think that girls will live aphex
twins music going through a different door than guys. thats
a a tad bit ignorant. i tried to get some of my friends to
listen to mr. james music and the only two who have shown
some kind of interest were two girls, and they heard the
noizy and the more relaxed shit too.

silverflux from nyc on 2002-01-24 03:37 [#00074325]

i'm the only one that i know of (i am a girl) who is really
into aphex twin.

personallym i love window licker--try playing her ambient
works vol. 2 (one of my favs)

umbriel from quebec...the old on 2002-01-24 03:38 [#00074326]

silverflux : you know me!

silverflux from nyc on 2002-01-24 03:39 [#00074327]

i know you too
;)

silverflux from nyc on 2002-01-24 03:40 [#00074329]

duh, what did i just say...
i meant...
(zzz.)

AMinal from toronto, canada on 2002-01-24 03:45 [#00074330]

i dont know any girls who know of aphex twin.. (at least not
in person)
but then i only know 2 people of either sex who do so..

but ur right umbriel, its ignorant to just assume that girls
have to be introduced to afx through a different door..

B3n from Falkland Islands on 2002-01-24 17:08 [#00074482]

I'm not meaning to be sexist, its just a lot of the girls I
know aren't really open to new kinds of music. *This* one
is, but I myself (a big aphex fan) gradually got into some
of the harder stuff in stages, rather than going in at the
deep end.

B3n from Falkland Islands on 2002-01-24 17:10 [#00074483]

Also, girls are more likely to listen to another girls
recomendation as opposed to a blokes I think!

analogue bubblebath from england on 2002-01-24 17:15 [#00074485]

alberto balsam - top lovin' tune
popcorn cover off caustic window joyrex 5 - cheesy pop
business
pirelli ad off caustic window joxrex 11 - scare her pants
off

pOgO from at work on 2002-01-24 18:02 [#00074498]

It all depends on what king of music she likes in the first
place.

If she likes heavy music, play her come to daddy or somthing
rough like that, if she likes mellow, play her something
more ambient.

Give her something that she will be familliar with

B3n from Falkland Islands on 2002-01-24 18:03 [#00074500]

I'm trying to do a bit of everything really.

nacmat from Spain on 2002-01-24 18:18 [#00074504]

i THINK GIRLS DONT HAVE ANY DIFFERENT TASTE.

mama on 2002-01-24 18:31 [#00074509]

titsworth_courier from washington, dc on 2002-01-24 18:53 [#00074511]

RDJ album absolutely.

before i ever went out with my gf she liked aphex. she only
owned saw2 tho, but thought it was a masterpiece. then
again, she has a genius level iq, 3 degrees, and is a few
years older than a lot of you. she recently got drukqs and
loves it as well. so if the girl is smart and loves music,
those 2 might work best. for normal girls try RDJ.

B3n from Falkland Islands on 2002-01-24 19:27 [#00074522]

She isn't really that normal, she likes a lot of piano music
(not that thats odd!)

Here is the finished tracklisting I came up for myself and
her.

1. Fingerbib
2. Alberto Balsalm
3. Flim
4. Avril 14th
5. Ageispolis
6. 4
7. IZ-US
8. Girl/Boy song
9. Kesson daslef
10. Acrid Avid Jamshred
11. Rhubarb
12. Milkman
13. To Cure A Weakling Child, Contour Regard
14. Vordhosbn

titsworth_courier from washington, dc on 2002-01-24 19:28 [#00074523]

you should fill a whole cd

pOgO from at work on 2002-01-24 19:29 [#00074524]

If girls didn't have different tastes there be alot of
single men out there

umbriel from quebec...the old on 2002-01-25 04:26 [#00074709]

you forgot an essential...
bucephalus bouncing ball

Autaxi on 2002-01-25 04:50 [#00074723]

Ae = IDM for men
MoM = IDM for women
Aphex Twin = IDM for boys
Matmos = IDM for girls

AMinal from toronto, canada on 2002-01-25 04:58 [#00074725]

im w/ ubriel on this one:
bucephalus bouncing ball is one of my favourite aphex
tracks.. and the one that convinced me of his complete
genious..

B3n from Falkland Islands on 2002-01-25 11:23 [#00074794]

Yep, oh well, I don't think its a bad selection, and you
can't please everyone!

ken from ken on 2002-01-25 11:58 [#00074800]

my girl digs the woxen pith, and cornmouth-hope that
helps...

Chri5py from UK on 2002-01-25 12:04 [#00074801]

My girlfriend likes Ploynomial-c, Vordhosbn and AB3 track#1
if that helps anyone.
