is on tv in 5.
while knowing perfectly well that i will be peeing my pants when i see this movie again, i am still going to watch it, and regret it for a long time after. this is plain stupid, but i wanted to tell you people anyway because i'm a hero for it.
people who say this movie isn't scary don't really exist.
p.s: i'm home alone too which is a bonus to the scary factor.
k bye now

I think, as long as you played it softly, music would be even better during.
I recommend The Shining soundtrack. Positively unsettling.

I thought it was really scary at the time... and I don't think I've seen it since. Not because I don't want to, but fate hasn't brought me back to it. I think I've got it in .AVI form on a CD somewhere... maybe I'll watch it.
I think I'd still love it. You've gotta use your imagination for it. The whole concept of those woods scares the shit out of me, their exact situation is one I've had nightmares about for 20 years, one I've conjured up in my head a million times. It was very easy to convince myself, while watching it, that those kids are completely fucked. And there were milllions of possibilities in my mind as to HOW they'll be completely fucked. Their mental state and the way they acted and the things they did were also frustrating, just like I'd expect it them to be. It was basically a documentary of a situation I've thought about dreadfully forever.
A lot of people don't like it, but whatever. It's a good film that becomes great if you want it to be.

lots of good points made.
its not as much scary is it is plain unsettling.
the whole 'this is just a movie' idea just doesn't seem to apply. i guess this has everything to do with the fact that its SO easy to imagine exactly how you would feel in that situation. The whole buildup of tension and emotion in the group is just perfect.
i seriously cannot stand people who don't 'like' this movie. Whoever says that they didnt think it was scary or unsettling at all, obviously lacks any imagination.
btw, the music at the end credits is really good. gotta check for downloadability.
btw2, book of shadows is playing right now, but i'm in no state to watch it. plus i heard that it sucks, which is no surprise of course, but i'll want to see it sometime anyway.

Talk about misinformation. The director of photography on the movie, Neal Fredericks died tragically in a plane crash on August 14th."The Blair Witch project" was jointly directed by 2 people, namely Daniel Myrick and Eduardo Sanchez.

I agree completely. I really can't fault the film to be honest.
I guess some people don't like it because you don't really see anything. Which is ironic because I think that is its greatest strength... what you don't see is more scary than what you do blah blah. I love the noises in the movie, I can't tell you how much they freak me out. Like the children's voices in the middle of the night... bloody hell that scared das sheizze out of me when I first saw it.

yeah about those voices..
lets for a moment pretend to be film critics and slag off this 'entirely impossible' moment.
cause if you really take this movie apart and look at what's 100 % realistic, and what's not, then the children's voices would be on the 'not' list. or does anyone have a theory for this?
not that i mind, cause it really adds to the tension. just wondering.

Hmm I never really thought of it being unrealistic. I guess most films would have had some groaning, heavy breathing monstrosity approaching tents in the middle of the night... laughing children is something so out of place that it becomes freakishly scary for me. Imagine being lost, miles into woodland, in the wintry early hours, and hearing from a distance that sound - I would have a freakin heart attack
The legends of the witch taking the children into the woods is I guess the significance of it, although its never really revealed. For the best IMO

This film made my heart pound something rotten. Most of my friends considered it rather lame though, so i'm stuck saying "yeah, that shit was about as scary as pingu", so as not to seem a big wet pussy. And so is the nature of masculinity, i guess.

I believe somone here as pinched Blair Witch 2 for their avatar. If you have any respect for the first film, and indeed for yourself, not only will you not watch the sequel, but you will murder, in cold-blood, anyone who had anything to do with the making of it.

I've never seen the sequel, but it sounds like you either love it or hate it... I've heard people say it's complete shit, while other people loved it and thought it was some sort of unheralded, misunderstood masterpiece.
I think the general consensus is that is was quite bad, but I'm still interested. Maybe I'll trot on over to Supernova.org and find out for myself...
