if by mainstream you mean well known by many people, then
here's a few:

NewOrder - True Faith
David Bowie - Ashes To Ashes
Motorhead - Ace Of Spades
Queen - Bohemian Rhapsody
Genesis - Land Of Confusion (the synth is cool ok??!)
Joy Division - Love Will Tear Us Apart

there's probably a few more but i can't think right now

Springsteen isn't my dish, but I have huge respect for him
(for what he's done in the past, moreso). And that's
definitely an awesome song.

Mainstream and the underground is one in my head, I can't
seperate them... I guess the Bee Gees first album is
something most people wouldn't want to touch, but they
probably wouldn't regret touching it if they had the right
mindset. Pipes of velvet, nasal cavities of gold.

you're joking right? new york mining disaster 1941 is great!
and the cover by chumbawamba is even better.

There's a dashboard confessional song i enjoyed recently.
And that looks more like baking soda in the Bee Gees nasal
cavities.

Yes, I'm just joking! I don't really mean the album is
awesome. It's just awesome.

That Timberlake track was kind of tasty.. as was Cry
Me a River (the production was, yes, crisp).....(on both
tracks mentioned).

Recently, nothing.

Aye, there's not been much lately. I like "Annie - Chewing
Gum" though... it's been on MTV and such, and if there's any
justice in the world it will be a hit of vast proportions.

I like lots of music I shouldn't..
Dashboard confessional is great, as is alot of pop punk I
hear *embarrassed*. alot of it sucks though.. getting into
pretty shifty territory there.
but c'mon .. who can listen to 'devil in jersey city' by
coheed and cambria and not just melt? :)

there's a lot of them. far too much to list.

the only one i can think of right now in which i only
like the "hit" mainstream song and not too much the rest of
the album
is "Walk On The Wild Side" by Lou Reed... i
like Walk On The Wild Side a lot but i don't like
Transformer that much....

very often, i forget whether the albums i listen to are
mainstream hits or not, and when i listen to the actual
mainstream hit track i often forget that it's one. i totally
forget that with Glory Box by Portishead for example... (or
There There by Radiohead, if it's a hit... or anything by
Massive Attack... or...)

i also really like some catchy radio-friendly pop songs,
some i don't even know the name nor the artist.

...this thread made me want to listen to mainstream stuff
:)
np: Garbage - Supervixen

i didn't like "Toxic" by Britney Spears though, i was almost
sure to like it because it was liked by people who don't
listen to mainstream pop at all usually... but it just
doesn't do it for me ' _'

"Hey Ya" by Outkast was very good and incredibly catchy at
first listens but i got tired of it now.

queens of the stone age and nirvana. that's as "mainstream"
as i get. and i still prefer their less popular songs, by
coincidence.

I really like that new song by Outkast, called Prototype or
something...

and I love lots of mainstream music... anyone who judges
music as crap because it's played on the radio and sells
well is a dumbass!
