if the correct sequence of people post, a successful tic tac
toe game will run across the shirts.

if the correct sequence of people post, a successful thread
will run across this board.

yes, it's a sad day in the batcave.

I wish I could play warning forever on a fast computer!

I'm really serious about writing a shooter during xmas
break. I thought that a cool way to do two player would
have the fighters capable of switching between land and air
based, that way you wouldn't get in your friend's way too
much.

Whenever I play some of these games two player it's just
messy, and loses the edge that it has in one player

have you played ikaruga? I really really really need to.

Go for the shooter, man - the land/air thing is an awesome
idea, you could have it so the guy on land relies on an
airstrike from the other player to get through a certain
gate, and stuff like that - things to enforce co-operation.
When you get around to it let me know, I'd be glad to help
if you needed it.

As for Ikaruga, I really really really need to play it as
well. I've been looking for a dreamcast image of it
everywhere, but to no avail. I recently acquired full
versions of the two shooters from pompom games which are
very good - if you want to check them out let me know on
soulseek or something.

ikaruga is fucking insanely awesome. acquire a dreamcast or
gamecube and purchase it immediately.

yes yes, those are good ideas. You'll definitely hear from
me when I start doing it (that really may be until xmas =(
). I haven't resolved the 2D vs. 3D dispute in me skull
(I'll use 3D gfx and environment, but you know what I
mean--will your firepower be common to one plane).

Also, I know no windows programming. That's not a major
setback, but I am extremely lazy..

By the way like I said I just started thinking about it
yesterday, and am procrastinating [sic] it.. the really
important element is some really cute fundamental principle,
like the algorithmic growing bosses in warning forever, or
the growing ship in tumiki fighters. I don't want to
rehash, and I'd get bored anyway. I also have no drawing
abilities so the textures/shapes would require some creative
heuristics as well.

ok shit I was taking a shower and came up with something.
The enemies are composed of components which can stack in
various ways; such as I can take two three-wheeled missile
platforms, add a machine gun, and come up with something
more substantial. The enemies at the beginning of the level
each have some internal state which indicates a propensity
to merge with others or to just go and attack you.

furthermore these components each have some orientation, for
now lets be cheesy and make them colors, and you can select
a weapon of the same orientation to do more damage.

to make it more interesting, this orientation attribute
could be shared among weapons; for instance I could use a
blue laser to pinpoint a blue machine gun, but a fully blue
enemy I would nail with a blue bomb.

I'd end up picking something more interesting than colors of
course..

I haven't yet thought of how to build up the player's ship.
Games where the upgrades get to excessive suck when you die,
and I like the ikaruga style of everything depending on
skill, and player's ship doesn't improve.
