0 dB = hearing threshold. 20 µPa. 180 dB would be 20µPa times 10^18, so thats 20 * 10^12 Pa. this being well at least a lot bigger than 20 bar, which i certainly consider deadly for humans

Winner.
And I agree about the Lexaunculpt album. That is SO easy to sit through all the way.

"0 dB = hearing threshold"
Huh?
130dbs is usually considered a "threshold" or where "pain" may kick in, but in actuality, it's more around 140 but obviously dependent on the person.

i didnt say pain threshold. hearing treshold. like, lowest intensity a healthy ear can .. hear
at 1khz of course. it equals, like chris says, 10^-12 watt/m²

Ummm
1dB is what the lowest amount of pressure change is considered "differentiable by humans"
that's why it's a standard.
1dB = lowest difference in what humans can hear.

surely if that were true then it would be 1 bel not 1 decibel, otherwise the definition of a decibel would be the current value of a bel

So I'm lost. What are you saying about 1bel?
Humans can easily tell the difference between bels, but they can tell a difference down to a dB .... im not sure what you are trying to say with that whole bit.

Definitions of decibel (dB) on the Web:
One-tenth of a bel. It is equal to 10 times the logarithm of the power ratio, 20 times the log of the voltage ratio, or 20 times the log of the current ratio. One decibel is the amount by which the pressure of a pure sine wave of sound must be varied in order for the change to be detected by the average human ear. The decibel can express an actual level only when comparing with some definite reference level that is assumed to zero dB.

You can say 0 dB is the threshold of human hearing because it's the starting point and where 1db is the first bit of change to a human, but how is that relevant

I'll probably just end myself when my hearing inevitably goes. But it definitely would be doubly tough for someone like that, who lives and dies by pleasant soundwaves (Phil's soundwaves haven't been too pleasant in a long time). But life goes on. Brian Wilson was mostly deaf in one ear when he produced what is arguably the best album ever. No sweat, they can get by.
Pete Townshend has had a horrible case of tinnitus for decades, and no wonder. That'll drive you mad. That's what I'm worried about. Sometimes, on a really quiet night, I'll get this... foreboding frequency in my ears. Strangely, it used to happen way more often though.
