New to Autechre.

Kalx from milwaukee on 2002-01-21 04:22 [#00072754]

I don't own Autechre currently, but I am planning to
purchase some in the future. What would be the best
album(s) to get?

get Chiastic Side... actually it might not be the best album
to get first... actually no, get it... it's excellent!!!

I suggest Tri Repetae++ (double cd - Anvil Vapre, and
Garbage EP's on 2nd cd).

Check out CDnow - and listen to some audiofiles, see what
you think?

I don't think that there is a bad Ae release, so in my books
you can't really go wrong. But Tri++ is not a bad start.

On the other hand you could start with Incunabula, which is
their first (also very nice) - and work your way through the
years. The advantage of this is that you will notice their
evolving/maturation/ageing whatever more closely?

Amber. its great from start to finish. that is the first
album i bought and so far the only album i have of thiers.
i'll prolly go w/ Incunabula next.

It all depends on what you like. if you like melody, i would
definetly go with incunabula. to some, it may sound a bit
dated(its from 93). but if your truly into this type of
music, it wont matter because you'll like it regardless.

Amber follows in the sense that it retains the same basic
properties that were in incanabula, but is a bit towned down
on the melody. and a bit darker.

I would really only reccomend an AE newbie start with those
two. because, although they retain much of the sound from
their early years on a couple more albums after those two,
they begin to evolve very quickly, and grow into a very
complex percussionary sound. and it may turn you off.

In the end, youll buy what you want, and what you CAN find.

But above ALL else, DO NOT BUY THEIR NEW CD CONFIELD.

truuuuuuuuuuuust me.

until you have the rest of their albums, that is.

actually confield is my favorite right now, but i'd
recommend that later on. tri rep++ and ones before that are
good for ae newcomers. i hear listening to their releases in
chronological order is what's recommended.

actually, you don't have to take my advice. it's best for
you to acquire your ae listening experience by trial &
error. judge for yourself.
