i'm becoming a technophobe...

is it ever possible to get ANY kind of technological stuff
which works totally well and does not fuck up in a way or
another?

my brother got a new iMac, with 256 extra RAM. i try to
install it for him, and bam! 30 seconds after beginning -
kernel panic!! (i also got another one on my own computer
three days ago, which i hadn't got since november, but
that's probably because i tried to put an optical mouse on
it... the cursor started to disappear and fuck up, i plug it
out, plug it in again, and bam, kernel panic). since then,
he hadn't got a second one, but i fear it might come at any
moment.

i got myself lately a cd player, an amp and hi-fi headphones
(i couldn't use my old Porta Pro headphones on this new amp
and player since the wire wasn't long enough; and someone
was always telling me closed hi-fi headphones were so much
better...) too. Koss again and Marantz, supposed to be good
brands no? well, i can hear more details (and imperfections
in the music) through the new headphones, and they have a
pretty cool design and all, but i still really prefer the
sound of my old ones... warmer and... i don't know, the new
ones sounds "numb". also, as for comfort, there is no
comparison, i can wear my Porta Pro for hours and not even
notice they're here - i'm getting tired of wearing the new
ones within an hour or less. worse, i was listening to
Medùlla on this new material and suddenly, the volume got
low all of a sudden. then normal again. i don't know what
happened, but i noticed if i move the wire of these
headphones, the sound fucks up. and it's all brand-new!!

and the Marantz player can't play the hidden track in ep7
where you have to rewind before 1st track. just a little
detail, and i don't listen to ep7 anymore, but still.

anyway, the thing is, i converted Medùlla to mp3 and i'm
listening to it on my computer with my Porta Pro headphones
now... i don't know what i will do, i can still bring the
stuff back to the shop and get a refund within 15 days...
but i'm getting despera

(and here again, the counter said i still had room for 23
extra characters in my message, but it gets cut off anyway)

in my next life i want to live somewhere in another planet
or in a desert or something with no technology -_-

ago...

I have heard negative opinion on Koss. I have Koss some
ear-bud's that I stole, they have good bass for the price
($15.00), but they could have been better designed, and
there's a loud hiss always present.

As for the Mac and kernel panic. Well, it's a Mac. On a
note, any panasonic stuff that I've had has been very
durable, never had any complaints.

mappatazee > heh : )

some months or years ago, i had bought a (quite expensive)
Panasonic portable CD player some months ago to replace my
old buggy Philips one. the next day, i brought it back to
the shop and asked for a refund. it wasn't practical at all
to use at home with this remote, it would start at track 6
or 4 or anything instead of track 1, etc.

you shouldn't get a kernel panic just from plugging in a
mouse, that's seriously fucked up.

man i'm sure you've read about what i've gone through with
my Mac computers - just hope you don't experience the same

if they build cd players that last 20 years you won't buy a
cd player for 20 years once you got one... so the quicker
they break down, the more they sell!

My electronics have been very good to me so far, and I'm
thankful, because God knows I've spent many arms and many
legs on these things, I depend on them. This is one of the
few times where I can't emotionally connect with an Uzim
topic.

I can't wait until I can integrate electronics into my body!
Like, a CD player built into my arm. The future is bionic.

Ophecks > i dreamt i was an android once... that would be
nice, to have everything "integrated" - if there wasn't any
bugs...

you sound like a troubled man.. im quite happy with all my
technology. tis all sorts of different equipment mixed
together, and the wires are connected with duck tape and
garbage bin binders sometimes, but it works. you are totally
right about buying stuff that doesnt work like its supposed
to tho, it really pisses me off.. like a battery thats
almost dead when you buy a mp3 player, or computers going to
buggery almost a week after you did a fresh install

oh, and i forgot: my n64 also seems to have died on me or
something.

i get no image anymore.

actually it's not even my n64, since i switched mine
with a friend's temporarily (mine couldn't play Mischief
Makers anymore, for some unknown reason - all other games
worked)..... might be since i got a peritel doubler since i
got a dvd player, but the gamecube and snes work with the
same cable and they work fine... i really don't know

well, my n64 controllers were all fucked up anyway
but still...

i'm very glad Wind Waker included Ocarina Of Time in the
bonus disc for GC/n64 emulation... at least i'd still have
the best one... i'll miss the other games though, Mario 64,
Goemon 2, etc.....

you don't have to go to another planet to live a life with
no technology. it's actually quite a few people i know have
done it -- one is just returning to mexico city after
spending a year on some remote island in indonesia
researching their traditional music composition. it's very
easy.

i like that technology breaks. i mean, i obviously oh-fuck
out loud whenever something of mine malfunctions, but i
think i prefer a world with continuously crumbling
technology than a perfectly functioning one.

call me crazy, but I love buggy systems as long as they're
not COMPLETELY paralyzing, it's like living with a couple
that argues all the time, but instead of getting annoyed you
think 'awww how cute, they're arguing'

I'm strange.

when it's something that can impair how well I use my system
entirely, I turn into a lethal killer, not the james bond
type, (accurately a swavely taking out the opposition) but
more like a mobster (thumping anyone and everything to do
with the problem until I get some answers, and when I do,
beat the virus down with a metal cylindrical object)

I also have a habit of punching my monitor if it ever resets
for no reason
