First off, a big hello hello to everyone. I've been gone for a little while.
I'm looking to purchase a microphone that would be ideal for recording ambient sounds, small objects, etc for the purpose of a sound design project. Can anyone reccomend a good type/model of microphone for recording small sounds, ambience, speech. I'm looking for something along the lines of those tiny mics that reporters use for radio when they're out on assignment.

how necessary is it that it be inconspicuous?
are you planning on using a Minidisc for recording?
