Reason 2.5 - A fantastic program

Guys, iv been fidiling around with Reason 2.5 for a while
now, and I must say its a fantastic program. I will soon
upload a few Tracks I made with Reason, when I get my
Internet back. But for now let me just say, dont waste your
time with Fruity Loops, if you are a newbie producer.

With Reason i learned how to pobebrly use a Compressor, what
an LFO filter does, and how to probably program a synth, the
learning curve is incredible if you study other peoples
songs.....damn, I wasted so much time with fruity
loops....its a pity.

And in combination with Abelton Live Reason is
unbeatable...well almost

And its so fucking easy to program Techno Loops with Reason
too. You just take the a sliced loop. Extract the snare drum
the bassdrum, and the other percussive elements you like,
program a loop with these samples, filter the whole pattern
thru a lowPass/HiPass etc etc Filter, and layer the same
drum patterns over another just with other samples...and
diffrent filter settings, voila. Instant Techno

...this program is just so fucking great.....Venetian Snares
BEATS, you think they are complex ? Not at all if you know
how to do it, its easy as fuck to produce these snare rushs,
and insane fast beats in Reason 2....

It all makes sense to me now, the workflow in reason 2 is
just totally diffrent than in Fruity Loops.....

Alexander Kowalski, London Electricity, Samuel L. Session,
Liam Howlett, Adam jay.....etc etc etc, all use Reason to
produce their tracks

I started with Floops and got Reason about 2 years later. I
still use Floops, but I'd say my time between them is about
70% Reason, 20% Floops, 10% others. I've recently really
gotten into Subtractor programming, you can do some really
cool stuff with it.

I'd definately say Reason is a lot easier than Floops for
"commercial" stuff like DnB, Dance, Techno, etc. but I still
do most acid tracks in Floops.

True, you can get most off those commercial sounding lead
(that obnoxious Jp8000 Trance Lead for example) and pad
sounds out of subtractor.

Well of course it takes a certain effort to program and
rearange these beats....

how do you study other people songs? by listening to them or
do you download reason files somewhere, or do you mean the
standard ones coming with it?

i have used Reason for about 3 years...my friend introduced
me to Reason 1.0 and i have advocated its use ever
since....i bought Reason 2.5 when i bought my iBook last
year, and Reason continues to be the mainstay of my work.

but having said that, i would much prefer to work with
hardware synths - i just really prefer the sound and the
knobs

I see my whole musical horizon shifting forward.

vsnares beats are easy if you rewire reason through cubase
and you use a certain vst plugin

i don't agree...it's easy to do em dry or with a multitap
delay.
u just need to know the programming techinque.

floops could have taught you that, if you used your brains a
bit

cubase

Well of course it is....I guess Cubase would be the next
logical step for me....however, what I was trying to say is,
that with REASON its probably easier to "learn" the basics
of producing electronic music....I dunno, i find Reason more
User Friendly than Fruity Loops, especially the Interface

It is as basic as your imagination. I have only ever found
it limiting on a couple of occasions when i had to use
something else.

skink: i'm a bit surprised you use reason; wound't have
guessed. which instruments do you use the most? (i'm
wondering if maybe you use the maelstrom's filters?)

Choice of software is far less important than a) having the
willingness to experiment, b) having an ear, c) having the
time to work on your shit, and d) having the dedication to
use that time.

I hardly ever use the malstrom it really pisses me off!

Hmm, apart from that i use everything else.

Don't forget that i use other things as well. I quite often
find myself doing stuff in cool edit pro 2 like sequencing.
I have taken recently to making my beats in cep just doing
it by ear i find the results usually flow much better.

I mustn't forget to mention audiomulch either but reason is
where most of the magic happens

: )

ive been using reason since 1.0, and i bought reason 2.5 and
i really do enjoy it. I make pretty much everything in
reason, you can do so much with it if you abuse it a bit,
use your imagination. Although it can be a little limiting
as it doesnt support plugins, i dont find this much of a
problem, if i need to use another program/plugin thats fine.

but i mean, each to their own, i think reason is great, and
if you dont thats fine also.

love from Ash.
