Not right!!

So I'm having a lazy morning.....and I switch on the TV
tune into ITV, and what do I see, the classic "Treasure
Island"
Because I cannot put my hand to the remote, I think to
myself in a lazy way, this could be interesting, and what do
I find....its got sign language added to it, in the form of
an asian woman in the lower right hand corner of the
screen!!?!?

I mean, what the fuck is with that?!? Thats what subtitles
are for....I dont want that distraction on the screen! I'm
not racist or anything, but in certain scenes she looks like
a monkey throwing its arms all over the place :(

Those in the UK now, switch on ITV1

Sky Movies do signed movies ona fairly regular basis and BBC
News 24 do at least one signed bulletin every day.

I can understand maybe on or two bulletins being done and
I've seen them. But on a film its kinda distracting I think.
Its like she is part of the foreground in the film. I'm
waiting for Long John Silver to slap her out of shot!

It does provide ITV with a convenient means of meeting their
obligations to provide programming for people with
disabilities though. Why spend money commissioning dedicated
shows when you can just slap a signer on some old movie?

With respect to Sky's use of signers, the percentage of
their movies that have them is probably comparable to the
percentage of people in the country who can understand sign
language, so it seems fair enough.

I just watched a wee bit. Apparently deaf people adore
Treasure Island.

In certain scenes the woman doing the signing looks like she
is taking the piss of the people behind her, especially with
some of the gestures :D

This sort of thing should be like closed captions- broadcast
as a seperate layer that needs a "deaf person" decoder box.

Indeed, or hidden somewhere in the depths of satellite
channels showing either 'God TV' or the 'Jack the Lad
Juicer' .... hehehehehe!

on the subject of signers - I think they should advertise
the program as signed, and not fool you into thinking its a
regular program.

TV Guide in SKY says it's just regular old Treasure Island
not 'Treasure Island: Now with Asian Monkey Signing Lady'

I was upset, emotionally hurt and disappointed when I
switched over to see Jim Hawkins be taken over by a little
woman.... :-(

I'm sure the asian woman took a few coins from Jim's pocket

It's bonkers- they try to convince you a "juice drink" of
carrots, eggs and bananas will keep you 100% fit and
healthy.
