why the fuck is it called electronic music? in theory, it
shouldn't matter which instrument you use, so making jazz or
rock or whatever with only a computer should be completely
doable... it's just an instrument, and the term
"electronica" or "electronic music" doesn't describe the
music at all!

Even some of the other catergories of music don't describe
their own music... certain trip-hop artists would've been
called "funky jazz" or "soul-jazz" or something like that if
they'd used "real instruments"...

fuck it.

I have, but "electronic music" doesn't even cover the sound
of an old converter
("bzzzzzznzzzzznzzzzzzzzznzzznzzzzzzznzzz").

I say I like synth music, and get my ass kicked by all the
hardrockers.

where did you penetrate it?

"synth music" is even worse.. there are VERY few artists
today that DOESN'T use a synth...

personally i don't see any problems with this term.
electronic music = music made with electronic gadgets.

but what if you make jazz with electronic gadgets? it's
jazz, not "electronic music".

bill: did you come?

I wouldn't know, 'cause they're in the "electronic music"
genre... I know of some people that make heavy metal with
computers, though...

the genre isn't depending on which instruments it is played
on.. you can play jazz just as well on two trumpets or with
only a bass and two drums... why not with just a synth or a
computer? Same with heavy metal.. you don't really need a
guitar for it.

alas, I will now leave my office, because I'm done with work
for today. Thus, this discussion will be without me until I
return tomorrow or something...

hmm, i'd say jazz pretty much depends on instrument it is
played on, yes. apperantly we disagree on this one, my hero.

easy. music is generally known to be created with
instruments. acoustic instruments. 'electronic' is clearly
to specify what the music is created with.

i guess "idm" topics aren't picky enough. i think this topic
is shit.

I like the term "Electronic Music." The way I figure it is
if the main emphasis of the music is done using "electronic"
hardware or software then it indeed should be considered
that. Now then, if the main emphasis is NOT using
electronic equipment (think Radiohead Kid A------>) it
should be considered something else. I dunno, that's my
philosophy anyway.

more specifically, if the emphasis is on trying to make it
sound as if it's NOT made using electronica, it isn't
electronic music.

just wankery.

electronic music doesn't try to hide the fact that it's
generated electronically.

oh well. who the fuck cares anyway, pff.

hee hee! genre titles? soo futile. Most new things are made
by people trying to emulate others but they don't have the
resources or the know how, bloody internet sharing ideas!

i used to get pissed off that everyone was always calling me
by a "name." always trying to "label" me. always trying to
reference, denote and identify me. to stereotype,
pigeonhole, paint me into a corner. but no name was every
satisfactory to everyone. some said, "you look more like a
dave." others, "you look more like a scott." thirdly, an
occasional "phil?"

so i just settled on "bob."

after the blatant success of Hirdcore, I've decided to
launch a new genre:

COAARcore.

also known as: PHWOARcore.
