get stanton 500AL carts. they are good all rounders. Cheap,
Relativly long life. good for scratching, good for mixing,
goods for listening, but not the best at any of these
things.
there are cheaper and there are better, but its a kinda jack
of all trades cart.
the freq response goes upto 17000Hz, which is a little low
for up-your arse HI-FI 100% quality audiophile, but you wont
notice that in normal use. and you prob would spend a few
grand getting expensive gear instead.
also you can get needles just about everywhere. lots of djs
have them. its a bedroom djs friend.

so basically: Stanton 500AL carts. get mkII ones they are
slightly better than the originals, but i doubt you will
find mk ones anywhere. oh and don't get second hand. its
really not worth it. dont use more than 5g pressure or you
could damage it. but they are fairly robust.

Ortofon!!!

I've got ortofon concorde scratch, and I think they're
fucking great! I could drop the turntable from a five meter
high place, and it wouldn't skip a single time!

i bought some bottom of the line stanton carts and they have
served me well for the past couple'a years. but i don't use
my turntable excessively. but i don't feel bad about
manhandling them cuz they was cheap.

i need a new cartridge for my Numark; whenever i try to play
anything it sounds very highrange and scruffy, but then
again, i do have the thing hooked up to a guitar amp since i
don't have speakers or a soundsystem. Hmmm...
