Tool - Lateralus

I'm not a huge metal fan, meaning I don't own many metal
albums, but this album is awesome!!!! The title track is my
favorite...

I'm not a big fan of Tool anymore, but the album IS
impressive. Schism is darn good!

drummers...

probably is :)

I think Tool are a great band - I don't think the actual
product is as good as it could be, I think the idea of Tool
is better than the end result - and I have to say I prefer
Aenima to Lateralus. Aenima has more variety, better actual
songs and a resounding heaviness which is missing with
Lateralus. Also, Lateralus really needs to be listened to in
one sitting - you can't just whack on Schism or Reflection
then stick something else on - it's like one 80 minute song.
Which is OK, but I think they took a sidestep in the forward
thinking songwriting and simply made an album which hardcore
Tool fans would appreciate (after the 5 year wait!).
Reflection is about the only song which is different from
stuff from the past releases.... don't get me wrong, I
fucking love the band, but they constantly miss the bullseye
by a hair's breadth and it's frustrating, no matter how
rewarding the music is

There is a slight similarity here IMHO to another artist...
a certain RDJ if you know what I mean :o)

And hey Funkmaster, you ever need some metal albums (or
recommendations) give us a mail... or see me on Soulseek :o)

I love everthing else by tool, don't like lateralus. Good
thing I gave it away. Go figure, dig?

I lost metal a while ago, but thought that I might get into
Lateralus. Didn't at all. I'm sure it's great for certain
fans, but I'm done with metal. Anyone ever hear Devin
Townsend's Infinity? Or any Ocean Machine? About the only
metal I can still really appeciate (on rare occassion).

Netlon Sentinel from yurp on 2002-01-23 22:15 [#00074221]

now i wouldn't call tool metal, dudes'.

btw, jarworski, you're damn right. aenima is an incredibly
good album and latereralus is too much a repetition. i mean,
some riffs sound really familiar. it's still a good album,
tho. and you're right about the length aswell. it's just too
much of the same. only the last few songs are experimental
(read: have a different sound from aenima)

but hey.

Ugh, Lateralus is horrible! Its garbage! Compared to
Undertow, or Opiate, or even.. *shudder* Aenima. They all
got worse with time, although Undertow was a bit better than
Opiate.

Every album by Tool rocks, none of them suck, and if you say
any of them suck, you suck.

Tool is by far the best band there is, but Aphex Twin is the
best individual that produces music.

T®ansmission from Netherlands on 2002-01-24 06:47 [#00074356]

Devin Townsend is GOD!

awt on 2002-01-24 11:35 [#00074401]

I love Lateralus. I see tool as a one. The albums is a great
combintation. Aenima,Lateralus,Undertow,Opiate makes a good
tool collection thats realy awsome. You get the funny fuct
part you get the serius spiritual part you get the anti/hate
part and you get the love part. What more can you ask for ?
