Can anyone recommend some herbal remedies to help me sleep at night.
Not cannabis or anything naughty
I am currently drinking some valerian based teas at present which are quite good.

Why can't you get to sleep. Are you arouzed/stressed? Cauze relaxation exersizes could help too. And do not dot other things in bed aside sleeping (no book reading/watching tv). You should associate your bed with nothing else than sleeping. Get a routine before going to bed and get out of bed if you are not able to sleep.
That was what I learned during my study. I work for a company that devellopes sleep registration soft- and hardware. And we study and analyse sleep problems and shit like that. But there is no real treatment unless you want to get addicted to sleep medicine.

At the moment it is hard for me to stay awake. I have analyzed about 40 hours of sleep recordings (5 nights) and I am starting to see brainwaves everywhere.

Drugs are nice :D but is sucks when you start taking shit to get to sleep. Then you get used to them, must take even more and get more used to them so they don't work anymore. Then you can totally forget to get to sleep without them but have to trake something else to get a little sleep. A hammer is more efficient.

Borix,
I will try those tips.
I am usually unable to sleep as I am thinking of many things.
I will try some meditation.
If you could e-mail some other tips that would be cool:

Try waking up earlier than usual, and then working out later in the day. Works for me.

I agree, melatonin does work pretty well. When your naturally falling asleep, scientists found that melatonin levels in your brain increase. They could not prove chemically that melatonin causes drowsiness, but still developed a dietary supplement pill of it as a sleep aid, to be taken 20 minutes before a desired bed time, and found that for most people, it works great. The thing is, some people don't understand how it works, and take two or three pills, thinking this will help them get to sleep even better, when in fact, taking too much will actually keep you awake. I used to be a huge insomniac, and would almost never be able to fall asleep without alcohol, weed, or night time cough syrup/ codeine. Ever since I discovered melatonin, I've been able to fall asleep much more naturally using the supplement. I'de definetly recommend it.

Melatonin will help you sleep for sure. My buddy eats 2 before bed, and smokes a joint. Hes out cold! But that stuff, in excess like anything is bad.

I've found that non herbal/chemial methods of finding good sleep are much more rewarding, but take more will. I also witness that various forms of powder methamphetamines will help you stay awake.
