eh.. someone apparently made a device that uses laser to play back vinyl records.. somewhat of an old invention, but for apparent reasons it never got popular...

If you have lots of vinyl, and you're a "purist" (you've only played it once to keep it in mint condition), this may be something to look into (if you can afford it, that is). The laser-thingie doesn't wear on the record as a regular cartridge... in fact, it doesn't wear on it at all...
