yeah.. and in all the reviews I've read it says "closed
headphones with an open characteristic" or something like
that.. all the reviewers seem to agree that they doesn't
sound like closed headphones... they also seem to agree that
these headphones are legendary in the studios and that they
can hold their own against MANY of the newer models from ANY
company... all written by independent reviewers, but the
reviews are in norwegian, so no sense in posting the links
here... I'll see if I can find any english ones.

so far I can only see one problem.. they have an impedance
of 300 ohm... this sounds like a lot since most regular
speakers are 4 or 8 ohm.. do you think that a vestax-mixer
will be able to drive them?

But an amplifier is def. a must.

There are a few homemade ones you can build out there

I don't have links offhand because I've been outa the scene
/ reading up on it for quite some time. There's a nice
headphone msg baord out there too somewhere

You will probably find that the hi end Sennheisers that I
mentioned are rated at even less than that. But yeah, for
DJing you don't have a choice.

I was talking about HD, not impedance. And impedance alone
won't tell you whether or not you will need an amp.

One last word on headphones... Reviews are certainly a great
way of getting a feel for what's on the market, but they
shouldn't be used to decide what you buy. Sure, a reviewer
might rave about headphone X, but there is no guarantee that
you will share his opinion.

Your ears are unique: nobody else in the world hears sound
quite like you. So you should buy what sounds the best to
you. Make up a compilation CD of some of your favourite
tracks -- preferably those with a broad usage of tones --
and head to a nice big hi-fi/music shop and test a few
different headphones out. Compare and contrast then buy the
pair that let you enjoy the your favourite music the most.

"And impedance alone

Sure it will.

The more ohms, the less power you are going to see. P =
(I^2)*R

I totally agree with listening before you buy. Some people
don't have that option...I don't know any places that have
lots of high end headphones on display for demo. Some
record shops maybe, but I'm not sure even they would have
what most people want in quality. I see a lot of DJs that
buy headphones for what they look like rather than how they
sound, LOL.

Nice thing about most Sennheisers too, is that they have the
nice cupped ears.

I can sleep with mine on and never get any aches because
they never touch my ears.

My buddy can only wear his Sony's for like an hour or so
before his ears hurt real bad cause they press up against
his ears so much.

Yeah.. I am going to listen.. that has been the plan
all along, but I just need to know what I am looking for, in
a way... I need to know what questions to ask the sales-guy,
'cause from experience, I know that some of these people
that work in hi-fi shops can be quite snobby, and won't talk
(sure, they'll talk to you, but they won't talk to
you... they just seem to want to get you ouf of their face
as soon as possible...) to you unless you come off as
knowing stuff... it's really stupid, and it's bad
customer-treatment, but that's just the way it is...
