if aphex don't release stuff cause he's loaded, perhaps one
should consider robbing him? I mean that's what he wants and
even expects from his true fans.
DO IT!

yes they areª!

I group his releases into 4 diferent styles in my opinion:

1. songs about my cats, witboas and hccbu (the sweet melodic
stuff)

2. doll doll doll, find candance, a giant alien force (the
obscure and more theme like things)

3. higgins, 2378094, chocolate wheelchair (the most funky)

4. making orange things, printf (and all the old stuff)

horse & goat and nymphomatriarch I dont know where to place
them

I'd place horse and goat next to hccbu and witboas.
nymphomatriarch? i really dunno, it stands alone I guess

the horse and goat title track and find candace are good
too. nympho-stuff is crap

at least i think we all agree on this: venetian snares still
produces reactions.

(and in my opinion, too much... all threads about him are
the same, half of "he's wank!" replies, half of "he's
great!" replies - i hope people will finally get bored and
stop these infertile discussions...)

its true that there has been too much talk already... but
this thread is kind of diferent I think... we are all really
discussing from a musical point of view rather than just
attacking the people with diferent opinion
and really there are some nice posts here

i'd love to hear someting different from vsnares
eventually...so far everything i've heard sounded
practically the same. as for afx and squarepusher - they're
trying out many different things...exploring sounds and
stuff.

i like snares
i like squarepusher
i like aphex

i don't like people that sit around attacking some guy thats
making the music he wants to hear...which all 3 do. if you
think all snares sounds the same you could say the same
about squarepusher most def. and to some extent aphex. give
him time he (snares) hasn't been producing as long as tom or
dick.

i'm sure with time and about 200 more releases (most of
which i will like and blair at high volume in my car) we
will see a different style(s) emerge. just be happy there
are people making music for you to even debate. or else we'd
have to listen to your shitty music some of you spam here
all the time.... god help us all.

the thing with vsnares is that he's so 5 years ago but using
all the new tech. so it sounds new but old. you can hear all
the latests bleepls and blops and drills and breaks... but
esentially, he hasn't made something new.

it's like he rewrites music from others.

still sounds good. but not really interesting

the interesting about venetian snares is that you never know
what he's going to release, most of his albums have very
different styles/techniques and none of them sound the same,
that's for an artist very interesting

Most of this chat is about their studio work. Which is fine
of course.

How about looking at their live so work?

Aphex - Dj's a lot, recently with laptop technology and
effects. Last time i saw him he played live. (Glade) He many
different kinds of sets Jungle, Noise, Breakbeats, Ambient,
Electro, Aphex-heavy. Tehy're all good and he crafts a world
of his own that can me equally melodic and harsh and always
braindancey

Squarepusher:
Took a brief spell from live bass playing at his gigs
during his Go Plastic tour. More time to strecth out his
music but he seems to be able to do this equally well while
playing the bass, which he is master of. The flow of his
gigs is very artistic and has a definite narative that is
dictated by his eccentric energy. Its both spontaneous and
very well though out and again... extremely dancey and
hardcore with terrfic melodic moments.

VSnare:
Seems to mostly mix CD's live but with and energy that
cannot be denired. His sets are full on breakcore
rollercoaster rides and pretty relentless with little
breather time. Fucking very enjoyable but less artistic than
the other guys. More raw and less crafteed but i find pretty
enjoyable. RDJ was dancing like a nutter at VSnare @ ATP
last year.
(he plays here next month... yes!)

I don't hear much difference in snare's releases, and I'm
starting to dislike saying such things. Cause he has control
of his stuff and has probably worked hard. It must be tough
putting your stuff out there for everyone to pick apart. And
all because he just started releasing music doesn't mean he
hasn't been making stuff at home since high school.
