Question: SAW II's titles

\/\/ooÆ’erAttack from Milan on 2002-01-18 07:43 [#00071499]

Who gave the song's title to Selected Ambient Works II? As
you know the original cd hasn't titles, but they appeared on
internet. Who invented it? Richard? Warp? Who?

If you look on this sites discography I think It explains.
Somethingt do with the pictures, the track length, where the
pictures are. Each record/cd has little pie graph things.
They each represent a song. The size of each songs graph
piece is similar to the tracks length. Notice the pie graph
are in groups f three I think. Each is a different color.
Each Picture has a pe graph in it. Each picture representsa
song. The track names are what the pictures are...

And if that don't do it for you try this...

the song names are quite universal. i think what woofer
meant was: who and why did they name them? oblivously it
must be someone important because everyone uses the names.
the pictures can be interpretted as you want them to be.
so who decided that these pictures were to be interpretted
and universally named as so?

\/\/ooÆ’erAttack from Milan on 2002-01-18 09:32 [#00071522]

Mutant Death Pengwin: Yeah mate, You understood what I mean.

So someone know an answer to my queston? Maybe phobiazero?

and why do we need the names, who cares about the names...
and in sawII which i think is understood as a whole.
i prefer thinking bymyself in the relation bettwen the
textures of the pictures and the music textures... relation
that may be totally different from yours, but that is what
probably richard was looking for, some kind of interaction
with the listeners, he makes the music and the game rules
and the listener is the one who plays the game... then the
master piece is complete.

\/\/ooÆ’erAttack from Milan on 2002-01-18 11:10 [#00071538]

nacmat: I know what you mean and I agree with you but the
interesting question is: "who and why did they name them? so
who decided that these pictures were to be interpretted and
universally named as so?"

This is what I'd like to know.

Sido dyas from An Imperial Cruiser on 2002-01-18 11:38 [#00071548]

I bet it was the first person to make Mp3's of them that
named them.
Like that "Complex Equation" track.

David Tyler from Newcastle on 2002-01-18 11:45 [#00071554]

Here's your answer.
The song titles were invented by the japanese man Takumi
Mayazumo. He said himself (and this is a translation) "it's
like if an alien were to come to our planet and show us its
ways, we would understand to an extent, but if he were to
learn our language we could learn far more. I gave titles to
these songs so we could help eachother understand them
better".

|REFLEX| from Edmonton, Alberta, Canada on 2002-01-18 11:46 [#00071555]

Woofer: the names on SAWII are correspondant with the images
on the CD sleave. The pie charts represent certain images,
the song titles are just pretty much what those images
really are.

which is just wrong,

they weren't ment to be named as Richard would have named
them

doh.

Ophecks from Nova Scotia on 2002-01-18 13:12 [#00071605]

It 's helpful to give them names, though. Noone wants to
call them DISC TWO, TRACK EIGHT or whatever.

Richard is an arse!!!

Reflex: I know the story about pictures, etc... but the my
question is another.
Read below, Mutant Death Pengwin is the only one who
understand what I meant.

Woof, I knew what you meant.... I just dont have a clue....
I've asked myself this a couple of times.... It's definatly
from the internet though!

In a similar vein: Musicmatch doesnt know that we
affectionatly call Windowlickers track 2 "EQUATION" because
they title it !"£$%^&*() in the CDDB.

Little random info for ya all there!

David Tyler gave us an answer, and actually the name of that
japanese guy rings a bell. I think David is right

Joyrex from joyrex.com of course! on 2002-01-18 17:15 [#00071731]

The tracks do NOT have names. Each track is represented by
the images.

There is an interview with Paul Nicholson (designer of the
Aphex logo and SAW2's concept and artwork, Richard did the
photos) on 'that other aphex twin website'.

Joyrex from joyrex.com of course! on 2002-01-18 17:17 [#00071735]

Whoops, forgot to answer Woofer's original question:

Alan (Fluid) Perry named the SAW2 tracks, and (I think)
Gonzi Marchan named AB4's tracks (which also do not have
names).

\/\/ooÆ’erAttack from Milan on 2002-01-18 17:22 [#00071739]

Joyrex: Thank you, You have always the right answer. :)

nacmat from spain on 2002-01-18 17:22 [#00071740]

sorry for my ignorance, but who is alan (fluid) perry?

The_Funkmaster from Newfoundland, Canada on 2002-01-18 22:07 [#00071879]

One thing I've noticed is that on Amazon.com the track names
are different then the ones listed here on this site...
