BBC DRUKQS REVIEW (NEGATIVE)

My post is the one by Joss Classey. I had to post a comment
in shock a while back, even though the review was written
ages ago.

i actually totally agree with the reviewer. i'm a massive
fan of RDJ, having seen him 9 times now and i still listen
to all his stuff...... except drukqs is my least fave and in
the ways the reviewer gives.

i love the piano pieces though, the "mount st micheal" 2
track too ... but when you hear HAB, SAW, RDJ, ICBYD and all
the stuff he plays live, i thinks "drukqs" is poor show
overall.

but hey.. i'm not too worried about it... specially when his
ive stuff is where he shines.

DrukQs is my fav to date:

Everything I want in an album.

Oh, KeyFumbler, maybe you should try gettin the vinyl and
slowing all the tracks down by 10x.

Then you might reverse your opinion ;)

At times I really think he just made it slow, then sped it
up for production print.

I'm not sure but I like both ways (depending on the mood, of
course).

I love how the fast tracks can really whip my emotions up
and down like a roller coaster.

It is definetely a ride, and once you get some of those fast
bits memorized (well, I think it's impossible to totally
memorize this album), then if you slow it down and disect
it, you will find treasure :)

done it already!......... i may just do it again though.....
i'm still open to it blowing me away after some re-listens.

UltraVisitor does for me what i thought Drukws would do....
it just hasn't yet.

If you are any kind of self respecting experimental
electronic fan then you would not be saying any of that. Of
course it's down to taste but clearly you are wrong!!!? This
is the best album I have ever heard. I'm not joking Drukqs
is the best musical arrival that I have seen for a very long
time. How can you not be stunned by this work of art by
aphex? Seriously what are you on about??? Listen to Drukqs
not once but as many times as it takes for you to realise
it's beauty!

UV.

drukqs and ultravisitor are my two favourite albums...i
prefer drukqs by just a little. i remember i didn't really
get it/like it until after quite a few listens, i started
liking it a lot, but then after a year or so, it just
suddenly blew me away...i don't even know why...i listened
to it from begining to end without skipping any tracks
(which i normally do), and i loved it. still do...

Whether I love it or not aside, I really can't understand
how anyone can call Drukqs incoherent or a rehash of old
ideas.

"56 Cymru Beats again, is technically impressive - but again
could have easily been released in 1994. "

what a load of arse!!

its not just the tracks on drukqs, its the style of the
album. its not a *hits* collection, which could justify the
random-ness of the track order, its a full album, (on which
he in my opinion displays his finest works) in which the
track order has no logical sequence, but then, why the fuck
should it? his music has always been his own thing.
non-conformist. i personally think its very apt that his
finest album has no sense of conformity to it, as it sums up
his style entirely. short of personal opinion, who is to say
what is right or wrong?? this is a man who doesnt give a
fuck what others think.

Haha I know.

Dannn_: I feel the same about that rehash idea... these
tracks sound little like anything he, or anyone else, has
released before, the album is the benchmark for drill'n'bass
(IMO). If anything the album couldn't be more of it's time.

who cares if its inconsistent. the man took chances, he
scored some masterpieces (mt st michael, petiatl cx htdui,
meltphace 6, need i say more). be thankful. thats what the
program function is for.

i love many songs on drukqs. even had one played at my
wedding. as for the songs i got no love for, that's what
the >| button is for.

It's inconsistent so I made it consistent (cuz i'm a cunt
like that). I took the techno tracks and put them on a
single CD, the piano ones on another. The Techno CD ends
with 'Thank you for your attention, goodbye.' If I want
Aphex Acid I play the techno CD, If I want urr.. Selected
Ambient Drukqs I play the piano CD, If I want the whole
experience I play the vinyl where no amount of picking will
reorganise the tracks. I don't care what reviews or anyone
else says as I judge for myself but I still read them for a
laugh. I hate it when someone says something is shit, bad or
wrong but fails to remember that outside of their
perspective that means nothing. I don't want to know if
Aphex thinks nothing of me because what does that matter.

fucking genius.

i don't think it's a "perfect" album and i do prefer the
second disc, but overall i think it's fucking awesome. and
i don't think these two reviewers even understand his music
at all... it's great
