..went to see this documentary this evening.. I
don't really like Metallica's music, but after reading about
this I just had to see it..

the documentary is 140 minutes long and follows Metallica
for 2 years, from 2001 to 2003.. the grouprelations go to
shit and a kind of highly paid councilor is hired and starts
to help them..

this film is VERY funny.. just shows the ridiculous ego's
that a rockband of this magnitude can create..

countless extraordinary moments - one of the most notable a
conversation between drummer Lars Ulrich and Dave Mustaine,
who got kicked out of Metallica in the early eighties, where
it comes out that Mustaine has been feeling like shit for
the last 20 years, each and every time he sees or hears
anything concerning Metallica he feels like he fucked up.
incredible.

if you liked "This is Spinal Tap", you'll like this.

dave mustaine feels like he fucked up? he must be thinking
of all the money they've made, because metallica's music has
gone from bad to worse since the eighties.

If id software listened to it when coding, it's alright by
me.

Master of puppets can be cool though.. like fast and
entertaining. There is a certain type of really intricate
guitar playing that rivals idm in intricate complexity...
the best example is pearl jam's (I think the quite long
guitar parts in "even flow" or some other song.)

I don't want to see this.. I don't even acknowledge their
existence anymore. They're Metallica in body only, not mind.

While it's been all downhill since Master of Puppets, the
Black Album is still solid for what it is, and I'm in the
minority that enjoys Load and Reload. I get an early '70s
bluesrock vibe from them, but every dumb prick back in '96
compared it more to modern day alternative for some
undefined reason.

St. Anger, well... there's no excuse for that.

Are you a big Metallica fan? Well I am, and it's not funny
at all to me, it's just depressing and distressing. :_-( If
Ringo decided to make a gangster rap album, it would be kind
of the same thing... there's definitely comedic potential
there, but I'd more likely too embarrassed and mortified to
laugh.

Funny you mention that. I used to be a metallica fan, I
hated Load, but Reload was decent. Started off with the ol
classic "for whom the bell tolls". I will also not be seeing
this movie unless I happen to be at a party where someone is
playing it in their living room and I'm piss drunk. They
have gone to shit and now that I'm older and wiser I see
them for the cunts they are. They lost their 'humble-ness'
as soon as they started living in mansions and buying
expensive art, trying to push their way into upper-class.
"Alcaholica" was a spot on description of them. Just bitter,
rich fucks who cant get along with people in general.

I really want to see this. St Anger is awful, awful shit
and I want to see the process that went on in the band's
heads to make them think they were making something
worthwhile. Plus Lars is an asshole and it'll be funny to
see that dickhead talking about his feelings.

you'd be surprised.. I mean, Ulrich is being an ass in the
film, but you kind of can see where he's coming from.

Hetfield is just being a domineering ass.

you'll also get to see Ulrich's father - which is...
special.

'music' of 'Metallica') of this one. I'd like to see it as
well, sounds.... interlesting.

think i could handle sitting through metallica's music for
that long.

that those documentaries will most probably be a lot more
polished and "band-friendly" than this one.

this certainly has some very embarrassing moments for the
band in it.

the same metallica who sued its fans, now it wants them to
see what a changed bunch of rich assholes they have become,
this is just a feeble atempt to attract some of the fans
they lost when they forgot how to play music, and turned
into rich assholes.

actually they started shooting this documentary long before
that whole napster thing went down, in fact, it's even in
the documentary.

they also turned into rich assholes before this movie. but i
could never watch the movie objectively. i would always
think they are trying to earn millions, once again. the
movie might be good, but i will never watch it, its kind of
like movies with ben affleck or julia roberts in them,
something in the back of your mind is saying, here's another
rich asshole trying to become even richer.

Why does everyone say only the very first couple albums of
any band are the best. Like that's the cool thing to say.
The music geek mantra.

its funny though, because the first couple of metallica
albums, although not my cup of tea, are actually good, while
their latter shit, is well, shit. you could make an
argument for the black album, but i am sticking to my
story.
