hmm... elevator IDM :)

every other genre has this branch of music that is able to
be played in the elevator. why doesn't "IDM"?

randomness, variation. Now every time you hear a song, it's
exactly the same. but they could make it so constituents are
randomly selected.

Korben Dallas from _ on 2002-01-17 07:36 [#00071120]

Hey m -

Do you have any books you would recommend with regards to
fractral music/patterns and shit like that. I gather that
you are reasonably well read in that sort of thing - and I'm
very intrigued and would like to learn a little more - .. ?

Caserol Joe the Chubby from Minneappleseed on 2002-01-17 07:36 [#00071121]

Maybe not random, but a product of certain variables, like
the sock market, or something that reflects the
conscoiusness of society.

Drum n bass is yet alive! it only has to evolve like
everything else. I saw Poorline Condition tonight... lve
dnb, but much more interesting than your average dnb tunes.
Actually, they're amazing.

Re: Future music

On the one hand, I think we can expect some Beatles remakes
by the likes of Westlife and friends.

On the other hand - i expect music is going to be quite
closely paralleled with the available technology - "Audio
Tech"

Caserol Joe the Chubby from Minneappleseed on 2002-01-17 07:41 [#00071123]

that's "live dnb"

future music?
we will call it
techpeckhardfutsoftdrillyeyeambidancejazzytundubbybeat.
or maybe:
casiolikehornypussydance.
what about:
acridfuckingavidjerkybeat.
but i am sure it will be not as different as we think, i
remember when i was a kid back in the early 80´s that when
i thought of year 2000 i believed cars would fly all over
the city... and look orund!

Ceri JC from My house in Pontypridd, Wales, UK on 2002-01-17 11:33 [#00071181]

I think M touched on something there. Imagine a song where
it was composed of 100 verses, all of which worked in pretty
much any order. A random generator chose the next verse and
played any four verse with a standard chorus in between.
Certain verses could be rarer than others. This would work
especially well with ambient music, but could work with
lyrical stuff too.

korben- Actually I wasn't very impressed with software that
was specifically designed to make fractal music. You'd be
better off reading about fractals then incorporating the
idea into your music your own way. It's simply scaling
symmetry. ex. Take an isocoles (spelling) (all equal sides)
triangle and add another triangle on each side in the middle
at 1/3 the size, repeat for each of these triangles, repeat
repeat. "the fractal geometry of nature" is a book by
mandelbrot and is quite irritating boring reading actually,
don't buy it, just get it at a library. He definately
expresses some very interesting ideas in there and makes
fractal art though he doesn't think of it as art, in that
book. There was an interesting internet site sorta about
Lars Music Num which is fractal music software. Robert Rich,
forrest fang use some fractal software (they're both on
mp3.com i think) but their results aren't super great even
though forrest fang was featured on the discovery channel or
something.

E man from Noitac ol on 2002-01-17 18:20 [#00071309]

doesn't otto von schirack make fractal musik - not sure at
all, but read it somewhere...

grinningcat from wonderland on 2002-01-17 18:35 [#00071315]

forget fractal music shite. and all this computer generative
nonsense.

they're both just crappy concepts for pretentious f*ckers to
dabble with, then discover there crapness, then abandon it.

the process of making the music is irrelevant. if u
pusblished ur work, wud u write on the cover "made with
fractal things". No.

if it sounds good it sounds good.

FUTURE MUSIC WILL CONSIST ON TAKING JOHN LENNON BACK TO LIFE
(THANKS TO MODERN FUTURE TECHNOLOGY) AND SHOW HIM WHATS
GOING ON RIGHT NOW, THE NEW MACHINES... AND VERY SOON HE´LL
RETAKE HIS "NUMBER NINE" PROJECT TO MAKE THE SOUND OF
FUTURE.

I kinda dig the direction the music coming out of no-future
studios is taking (Cristian Vogel, Jamie Lidell) like
someone else said..abruptness and randomness is the way to
go and even though I love Drukqs RDJ seems to have lost that
edge a bit on this release..there werent too many genuine
surprises on there..does anyone else agree?

PornMetal would be the sound of the future, especially the
band "Laffe Hoer!" would lead you to a new dimension of
metal....
Keep your ears open for them, they are gonna be big :)

The_Funkmaster from Newfoundland, Canada on 2002-01-24 03:11 [#00074316]

seriously though, I've been listening to this album by Afro
Celt Sound System, and it makes me think that world music
might be the future of music... because this is basically
electronic music, but with influences from around the world
added in... so really it's just electronic music, blended
with music from the world... a culturally diverse music...
I'm thinking that might be the future... but who really
knows...

the future of music is always unknown...f00!

and the popular new genre's will always be cluttered with
poppish junk...so get over it!
lol...
the stupid people have their music and the smart people have
their music as well...yep...thats my thought

DJCJ from Berlin...Connecticut...United States... on 2002-01-24 11:13 [#00074392]

I'd like to hear melodic metal coarsed on mellow pads allied
with deep and fast drums that roll and are ever changing.

And vocals deep with meaning and honesty.

voices sound like they're going through some kind of
modulation effect....mad cool! (satire)

"talking animals in bands

Yes, a group consisting of just great tits!
Oh, but there are bands like that already isn't there?

:P :)

wizards teeth on 2002-01-24 15:26 [#00074446]

There are groups with minor birds in at the moment (spice
girls for example).

It would be good to get four myner birds dressed as the
spice girls singing the songs in a bird like voice.

Shake it to the left if your having a good time (quack
quack), shake it to the right if your having a great time
(quack tweet)......................or something along those
lines (quack quack)
