OMG 'Games Without Frontiers' by Peter Gabriel is awesome
and Kate Bush sings on it too!

I think you've just converted me :) Nice to see he has
remastered albums out now, i'll check them out, Peter
Gabriel III will probably be the first one i get as it seems
to be regarded as his masterpiece.

I dunno what's in the charts now, but you can't go wrong
with a Carpenters compilation. Baby. Or both of the
Creedence Clearwater Revival ''Chronicles''. And the
horribly underrated Monkees, and Badfinger and Big Star.

not cool really. i wish i'd speak as good as i have, again
:)
for real though, i loved to spend summers at their
place...great countryside, instead of this stupid city.

nacmat, thanks for recommendations, that's what im talking
about EVERYONE!!!...i totally forgot about george michael,
and he's cool!
i picked prince's stuff already, and whitney is kinda too,
well, not upbrat enough :)

ophecks, i don't know either of those, i'll check them out,
although i have a feeling it's more of that beatles sound
again :)

I think you mean Don't Give Up about the Kate Bush duet...
but yeah, he's awesome... Peter Gabriel 3 isn't my favorite,
but it has some nice stuff on it... I much prefer Security
over it, and really Us and Up are both excellent... Up,
which is newest, is really fantastic... has some great
production work on it... and he spent over 10 years on it,
so it's just right! :)

black eyed peas are horrible
it's all cliche
the songs, the way they sing, the way they look like that
guy looks like wycleff
but you all know that right?

well I just listened to the song, and while she is listed in
the credits as backing vocals on that song, you can't even
tell... but if you like Kate Bush you might like the song
Don't Give Up, as it's a duet between her and Peter
Gabriel...

its Kate Bush, you should be able to tell, no one else sings
quite like her :)

no, but I mean I can't even hear anyone else singing on it,
let alone Kate Bush... :)

thats weird, she sings 'jeux sans frontieres' in the song,
she signs before Peter Gabriel does... unless your thinking
of another song or a version with her edited out.

(first of all, i'm not a native english speaker, so...
excuse me )hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm, tolstoyed, i'm replying to your
first message. Wellll, popsong is soooo subjective, so
subjective... actually i think, everything in music except
noise are popsongs ? Is that Ok ? Actually I think aphex
does pop songs and even Oval is very close to pop songs
(and, yes bon jovi is not pops song but a commercial sound
shit:), but who does the strongest pop songs ? well, i
think this is very difficult question. for me, the best pop
song must be very STRONG as a hmm, pop song, but a the same
time it must the as "ALTERNATIVE" as possible. I Think,
BJORK is best in it. that's all :)
Btw, I REALLY like KAte Bush. I trully believe bjork is
continuation of Kate Bush (soory agauin for my poor
english...\)

your english looks good to me, although im not a native
english speaker, so what do i know :)

well, i was kinda trying to get recomendation for those pop
songs everyone knows...mainstream pop songs...the cheesy
stuff if you like :)

not sure i understand why you'd consider afx pop and noise
not pop...my guess is coz of sound?

scissor sisters are great example of great (non mainstream?)
pop.

thanks to everyone else who made recommendations...i found
plenty of good stuff...so im turning into big pop fan now!

Ahhh, you mean those really cheeeesy pop songs.. yes I have
one... i still like Sandra.. don't know why but I like her

... and about why I have considered afx pop and noise
not pop...(your guess is coz of sound) but i tell you it's
coz of structure of theit sound buildings :)

offline tolstoyed from the ocean on 2004-08-02 18:23 [#01293679]

so basically you consider pop anything with structure? well,
there's plenty of music that doesn't fit into that chategory
:)

basically i consider pop anything with pop structure. the
structure i can follow. not just "cool" sounds i can enjoy
to. actually i consider pop with music and like it. and I
hate noise
despite the fact i have alot of noise records and enjoy
them. that's because i think noise destroys the original
goal of music..

Download some of the Vice City soundtracks... some great
cheese on there, if you like cheese that is...

Wang Chung - Dancehall Days (my favourite)
Joe Jackson - Steppin' Out
Bryan Ferry + Roxy Music - More Than This

bryan ferry and roxy music are ace!

i'll check those others...thanks

zhuzha - you knoe me, or you know what i mean. what you said
about bjork is very true, maybe that's why she's so
popular...appart from her music being great that is. and
yes, i was asking a while ago, why she got so popular and on
other hand all these electronica guys who helped her with
her music are far less popular...the only real argument why
she succeeded was coz of lyrics/vocals.

offline Zhuzha on 2004-08-02 20:09 [#01293765]

tolstoyed, actually i do not pay attention to her lyrics at
all !! That's a different genre which do nothing with
listening to the music and how she pronounses words... but
sorry i'm going to sleep now. I will answer you tomorrow...
