My soul cries for the loss of someone I didn't know other
than through his music. May his soul rest in peace. Amen.

I'm in a very bad mood because of this news

You see... I'm as much of a soundtrack fan than I am of an
IDM fan. I have over 50 official Goldsmith releases and at
least a hundred bootlegs of his work. His talent was so
underestimated by Hollywood, it's a shame. He was a gifted
musician, a true unique artist even within the field of
movie scoring.

Don't forget "Basic Instinct", which is perhaps his best
work alongside "Alien".

I always wondered who did the music for Logan's Run. Thanks
for news Sir Qrter of the Netherlands. Your's truly,
The Casual King of America, rarndaraki.

haha, they sure do. Same mood, mostly. Sometimes you think
they're positive, but then you read between the lines.

oh anyway, yeah I recognized his name, but I didn't know
he'd done all of these classic scores.
Planet of the apes's got a fantastic soundtrack, and I
really love The omen aswell. I should look into the others!
I am yet to see "Innerspace", "Explorers", "the secret of
NIMH", LA Confidential and "Logan's run", I think.
But I might have seen them (under an alternative, most
likely swedish, title) when I was (much) younger.

thanks for the notification. RIP Jerry G.

I am somewhat confused by this statement...How could
Hollywood Underestimate his talent when he WAS
responsible for scoring almost every major movie there
is....

I am fan a few of his scores... the rest were somewhat
generic...probably because he practically defined and
invented the genre...hats off for that...
credit where credit is due...

He also did the theme music for The Waltons.

Hmmm, actually flea no you're kinda wrong eh ;)

Every movie he scored, he did it with an incredible
intensity that often wasn't the case of the movie itself.
Some of his major scores, are for movies that just rightly
suck. Supergirl, Rambo III, Krull, Legend, The Burbs, Star
Trek TMP, Damien : The Omen II, The Omen III, First Knight,
etc... I mean those aren't A-list movies. I'm ommiting
plenty here, just check out imdb, browse Goldsmith work and
check out the "sorted by ratings" section. There's so much
work that's sucks as movies. I'm sure some of you will say
"Krull rules!!", but that's beyond the point.

Anybody in the industry, knows that Jerry Goldsmith's
talent was kinda wasted by the quality of the film he worked
on. His choice of movie often was because of his affinities
with certain directors, and those directors weren't always
A-class ones. If you compared him, contemporary, to the
Williams, Elfmans, Horners, etc.... they had the chance to
pick not only A-list directors but they were "lucky" to find
A-list movies to score.

I mean everybody knows that. Just head on to
filmscoremonthly.com and you'll see such threads pop in each
month about the waste of talent of Goldsmith. He was just
unfortunate.

And please, the rest WEREN'T generic. There's at least 20+
essential Goldsmith works.

Oh and monoid, I find this ironic coming from you, who
browse in a messageboard about IDM, a culture of music that
is often repetitive and pretty much all "sounds alike" to
the people who don't know this field. When they do, they
know it's not. You surely don't know much about movie
music.

there has been a reissue of the "Logan's Run" soundtrack
combined with the OST of "Coma", but that misses some
tracks.. there has also been a reissue a few years earlier,
in an expensive limited edition form of the complete
"Logan's run" soundtrack - I yet to have get this myself,
from here.

But they might be sold out! Quick, borrow some money from a
loan-shark and mail order that shit! You may regret doing
that now, but you may also regret it tomorrow, and for the
rest of your life.

my creditcard is more or less a loan-shark.. I can wait a
few days.. they've had that Logan's Run cd up for more than
a year, so I don't think THX is going to do a runner.

"my creditcard is more or less a loan-shark.."

yeah, I have to agree with you there. It's a shame evolution
didn't have money trees anywhere on it's agenda. But then...
everyone would be a money tree farmer and no one would care
about anything except how much money they could rake in
every week, month, year. Boy oh boy that would really be
something.

or they would start burning forrests, to control inflation
(which is what happens in the Hitchhikers Guide to the
Galaxy).

hahaha, yes I recall that.. I have the entire "Ultimate"
Guide that has all 6 books in one... I'm somewhere in the
middle of Book 3 and being a slacker about the whole
finishing process... At the same time though, it's not very
often that I find a book I enjoy as much as those, so I'm
trying to make it last. :D At times, HGTTG seems like the
Futurama of my dad's adolescence.

... which, doesnt make me enjoy it any more or less but...
it seems as though history somehow managed to repeat itself
in a very obscure and basically pointless way.
