Japanese film from 2001, released at arthouse cinema here
for 3 days but should be avail on DVD.

Its a 100% amazing film .. more like a period character
study than a "samurai" fick although the 2 fight scenes in
it are the most amazing no-bullshit fightscenes i've ever
seen filmed and i include all Kurasawas movies there....
breath-taking.

its got humour, drama, pathos, a great script and its
suptiously shot, set in the late 1800's. Needless to say it
makes "the last samurai" look like absolute cock and says a
lot more about loyalty, honour, what it means to have to
kill, than that hollywood trash, and says it through peotic
drama, not bushido-by-numbers cliches!

Check it!

will check it, tho every kurosawa film makes "the last
samurai" look like cock.

you can also try "samurai fiction", nice samurai comedy, but
not stupid like most chinese kung-fu films, its really nice.

i really like that japanese actor hiroyuki sanada. he was in
the last samurai and also ringu. i've been wanting to see
this movie for a while now, but there's no word that i've
seen on a region 1 release yet.
