she's a girl, she doesn't buy aphex twin cd's. she has come to daddy, richard d. james album, and drukqs. i mean, please, what else IS there worth buying? nothing.
anyway, valid question - where can i download the first peel session? seeing as how that's not on a cd that could be bought, it's fair and "square" to download it. =D =d +D ?D

i for one bought the US out-of-print cd's Classics and SAW 85-92 on ebay dirt cheap used and in good condition. it's not that hard. i don't mean to be "cruel" but there are really only certain afx mp3's that should be downloaded, the ones that are unreleased or deleted (ie: 2000 copies pressed on vinyl, knuhmean). for my part i am SORRY for mocking you, but it's just that so many people stiff warp and rephlex for money by downloading or burning the albums.

just cos RDJ hates warp doesn't mean we have to. warp is the label that gave us aphex twin, autechre, squarepusher, boc, plaid, plone, red snapper, etc. etc. ask not what warp can do for you, but what you can do for warp. ;)
as for rdj having enough money, it's not an issue of overpaying him - it's paying him at all. ripping him off is not cool. it's not right that pop artists around the world can spend 2 weeks in a studio and sing words they didn't write over music they didn't perform and make millions of dollars while true artists get little to no money because their fans are smart enough to know how to download their songs off the net or burn albums.

Not true my friend, mostly if should be ok to rip artists off, they get paid anyways, through the record company and the stores that buy the CD in the first place. Its independant artists running their own record companies and such, Indie labels, that get hurt when you Rip music.

of course, artists don't really make their loot from record sales- any real cash comes from touring, merch, etc.

Yup, so it is fine to rip artists and their mp3s for whatever use you wish. I do it. Tons of people do it. There are about 4 artists I enjoy that I actually pay for their CDs all the time, because they own their own little label to get away from Corporate America and all that it has to offer. So to speak...

he dosent hate warp, in his last interviews he said he hasnt got a problem with them.
and he says he release music so that he doents have to do other shitty jobs. If every1 copied SAW1 and 2 of each other, he'd wudnt have time to make ICBYD and RDJ etc as he'd be working in a local McDonalds.
so buying his CD's properly is giving him more power to create his fantastic music.

don't be dumb stores don't order cd's if there's no interest in them someone said drukqs has sold 20K copies i bet 100K have heard it at least
i'm not saying RDJ is poor or that he loves money. what i'm saying is, it's obtuse to claim that it makes no difference in an artist's income if you buy the music or not. ask anyone who has ever released a cd, whether on their own record label, no label, or a major label. if your shit doesn't sell then you don't make any money. advances need to be paid back. artists almost always make a percentage of what their cd's sell, for instance 10% for rappers back in the 80s, and up to 50% for some artists today depending on their contracts and involvement with the label. burning cd's by anyone takes money away from the people whose music you enjoy. not only are they deprived income, whether they need it or not, their record labels are sent the wrong message. it's impossible to count how many people have burned an album for free whereas the industry has an almost exact number of albums sold. if everyone's burning an album instead of buying it, the label doesn't know if people like it or not. what does that mean? look at nin. there's a financially well off group with a history of commercial and critical success. their last album was burned by a lot of people. as a result, their tour and music videos were funded by the artists themselves instead of the label because they were afraid of wasting money on a group without a statistically successful new release. what happened? they had the most popular concert tour of the year and made some great music videos. the fans are out there, but if you swindle the artists they get fucked over. the less you buy, the less promotional power and advance money they get. i can't imagine how anyone with a conscience could think ripping off their favorite musicians is cool given these facts. and whether you want to acknowledge them or not, they are facts. merchandise and touring brings in tons of money, but not all artists tour or make shirts. and not all artists are given the money to be able to tour or make shirts because of assholes who won't spend $10-15 on a cd they enjoy. if you're going to be a prick and do that, you have absolutely no right to complain about any popular musical groups or record labels because it's your fault that they're doing what they do.

Ok, so 100k have heard it because they can download it... but if they couldn't would those 80k have baught it?
Probably not, they probably would have heard it from their friend who has bought it... and or got a copy from them.... remember the days of getting TAPES (heh) from your friends?
Real fans are gonna buy it regardless. People just getting into will probably download, maybe not buy it, or maybe become a fan and start getting his albums.

I own PHM, broken, fixed, the downward spiral, etc... everything up until recently. I don't like the direction he has taken and did not purchase (or even download the fragile and his newer stuff)
I re-purchased broken and fixed after losing my old ones because they are awesome albums...

i just used nin as an example of an act with lots of money who is still affected by piracy (like aphex twin). i love nin and 'the fragile'. i own all the releases and his last album was my favorite. however i don't bother criticizing people anymor for their personal dislike of 'the fragile' - it is a departure from his old sound, as broken was to phm, tds was to broken, the perfect drug was to tds, etc. anyway, i'm not saying people should make generous donations to their favorite artists. it's just a simple matter of having legitimate copies of albums readily available in stores or online - it's a really simple concept.

as for your first post, the point people on this message board and all over the internet are making is that they have the technology to replicate albums on disc without having to pay - and so they don't, regardless of how much they like it. i think it's naive to assume that every single person who has heard and enjoyed drukqs has purchased a legitimate copy. i know a few people who love it and have yet to or will not buy a real copy. while i feel people should be allowed to burn whatever they please, i do make a point to urge people to speak to the record industry (who are very hard of hearing, as we all know) with their wallets and to take a sort of pride and honor in their musical preference by aiding the artists they enjoy. it sucks to have to think of it politically, but it's not a fair world and this is what i feel helps things out.

nothing wrong with having mp3's of cd's you own. or mp3's in general - i am just saying if you really enjoy a whole album you should buy it. i have something like 6000 mp3's on my hard drive, all songs i don't have on cd. when i get really into an album i buy it and delete the mp3's. a lot of afx stuff isn't available, like nancykitten meant, so until they're re-released i don't see anything wrong with enjoying them the only way available..
