Now that electronic music is basically over, are those of
us who still like it like those guys in 1995 that still
listened to Poison and Motley Crue and wore spandex?

I am starting to think that way, I am glad you put it so
succinctly.

those heavy metal guys still exist. and they've established
their own state where they can worship whitesnake freely.
they call it, New Jersey.

The thing is I still love the medium and the tools and the
unexplored potential despite most people who work in the
genre being stuck in circa 1998.

I've thought along these lines for a while...... maybe
things need to go back to the underground, I think thats
exactly whats happening........ underground where the soil
is more fertile.

offline Skink from A cesspool in eden on 2004-07-18 12:05 [#01279474]

I think there are only a couple of exceptions to this rule
who tryly take the time to create more than just tuneless or
generic crap.

Boards of canada and four tet i have faith in only these two
electronica artists at this moment in time.

wouldn't.

I think there's lots of interesting electronic music despite
the largest part of it being shit - like delicious insects
inhabiting a rotting cheese - you have to dig for the good
stuff.

isn't part of the fun sifting through countless drivel in
order to find that diamond?

Exactly - or to use a different analogy, the more manure,
the sweeter the roses.

It's probably a good thing for the scene to get overwhelmed
and driven underground by drivel.

you're expectations are incorrect, i loathe pigeon holes but
they are convinient when discussing or differentiating

Since when was there ever something wrong with hair metal?
Fags.

I especially love that transitional period when hair metal
was on the way down, and yet better than ever. Mr. Big's
''To Be With You'' > Kraftwerk.

It's hard to let go, isn't it? :D

I know what you are saying, but I think a whole era or epoch
or stylistic period of electronic music is over and done.

Of course electronic music will continue to be made. Hair
metal was made with guitars; so was grunge and all its
offshoots (I think it paved the way for a more widespread
appreciation of "indie" than would have been possible
otherwise). But what a difference between Cinderella and
Nirvana.

I look forward to the style of music that will bury IDM
using IDM's own tools and tricks.

Excelsior!
