uniqueness of squarepusher

First off i'm a massive fan..as if ya didn't knowsit... but
i wonder are there any other musicias that technically do
what he does live:

i.e. pick up a traditional instrument (bass in his case) and
play over multitrack recordings of their own tunes while
using effects on those tunes to warp em out of all
proportion.

There must be a few solo folks doing similar stuff? Surely
somebody out there has produced some guitary electronica and
plays live over their distorted beats?

any names?

Yellotone from AI was doing it at dedbeat with an electric
guitar. It was pretty rough though.

God damn that crocodile. One particularly idiotic teacher
used to teach us her own method, which was that it was a
witch's nose. So the witch always looks at the bigger
number. Seems stupid to me, I guess I just don't understand
witchcraft.

hmm.. must check em out, i saw matmos once actually but
without live instruments

you'd think there'd be some dude doing live keuboard/organ
or something with his beats. I know Niels Petter Molvar has
a live band when he does his trumpet thang and its quite
fucking good too.......

his bass playing is heavily influence by jaco pastarious
(sp) from the weather report. if you haven't heard any of
their stuff, i highly recomend it.

tom is a very, very well rounded musician. he's a pretty
good drummer, an accomplished bassist, and quite obviosuly
one of the best drum programers. ever.

re: "squarepusher is mostly just a cut, copy, paster."

yea, no shit. but it's how he reconfigures everything
and the fact that he very rarely has a repetitive beat going
that is mind blowing.

Of course you need to be bitten by a mutant radioactive
spider for this to occur... naturally. You can't just dawn a
spiderman costume and expect to have web shooting powers
like the random chinese man did above.

Have you heard otto von schirach's "8000 bc"? As I've put
before, it makes squarepusher look like mouldy crouton.

But then I do rather enjoy some squarepusher tracks and
agree the results of his copy/pasting and such can be great,
and they are unique to him.

imagine that's pretty much what they do live.

imho, alot of it makes Squarepusher's early bass tracks
sound rather cheesy and imitative

Feed Me Weird Things
Music Is Rotted One Note
Hard Normal Daddy

These albums are the only Squarepusher that I like and it's
probably going to stay that way.

Well, saying that, Go Plastic is listenable but that's only
because I like drill, aside from that the album is
repetetive and over-indulgent.

IMO.

his earlier drum programming just sound cheap, and cheesy...

everytime I listen to Go Plastic it reaches new levels of
brilliance and complexity. His last breezeblock set was also
truly amazing... squarepusher is one of the greatest
musicians I have ever heard in terms of virtuoso ability
with an instrument. I've never come across anyone similar ,
but thats what makes him unique.
