i've not really heard to much of their stuff, but i do have a question... perhaps, someone like Ophecks will be able to 'elp me out here... i just listened to a song called "Family Affair" and it seriously sounds like it couldn't possibly have been made in the early 70's it sounds so hip hoppy and produced... i'm just wondering if maybe it's an unlabeled remix or something... but yeah other than that, i'd love to hear what people think about Sly, and which albums are essential and such...

I only have their greatest hits CD (mediocre mastering btw) and it sounds very much of its era. I like their stuff in an arm's length School House Rock kinda way.

That's a cool song, but like Fleetrat said, it DOES sound ''very much of its era''. It doesn't strike me as particularly modern sounding... maybe you heard a different mix or something. It's from 71 or 72, There's a Riot Goin' On.
My favorite Sly album is definitely Stand... tough and catchy. Don't call me nigger, whitey! There was something in the water in '69.
