heres a new track i did if anyone is interested. i
personally think it is my best production to date. its
called ruby and i made it with vocalist stephanie lees who
will be becoming a permenant part of my projects from here
on in. i also included a latin outro at the end, which no
one will ever hear, unless you download this, and / or come
see us live sunday evening.

maudlin - ruby (demo + cigarro outro)

credits
ruby vocals : stephanie lees
ruby music : james alexander
cigarro outro : james alexander / sampled : bebel gilberto -
samba da benc

comments please! its still a demo... hence the vocal
quality... it will be taken into the studio in 2 weeks where
we'll finish it, and do the vocals on a rode classic or
something... but any ideas on how i might make this track
better, would be much appreciated.

very good track i wouldnt change it the only thing that let
it down is the 96kbps quality

stephanie lees sounds alot like martina topleybird or
serena
your lucky to be working with a good vocalist like that

i see... someone else had this problem... thats so wierd...
ill upload it again, and this time i'll go to the effort of

Try exporting it as a wave if your sequencer can, and then
encode it with an external mp3 encoder.

THE TRACK

i reuploaded it... this time its a 190Kbps mp3 instead of
96Kbps... hopefully nobody has any issues with this one, if
so then i apologise for wasting your time.

cheers!

It worked!
Nice production on this. I like the snare and the nomadic
vocals.
My favorite part, however, is the Latin Outtro. That sounds
quite simply, d0pe. Please extend it :)

haha i was thinking of extending it, but its wierd, its
soooo out of charecter for me, i got really confused and
puzzled when i wrote that outro... most mainstream thing
evah :)

thanks for listening

nice work man.
it has a very appealing sound. reminds me of like massive
attack or morcheeba or some shit. kinda. but like more
xanpha-ish.
yeah nice.

i see what you mean 'bout the vocal being rough. its a bit
muffled sounding. but good though.

i didnt, the sound guy was an absolute fool, there wasnt a
mixer and we were coming out of amps instead of a PA... it
wasnt bad sound wise, but it made a recording a bit of a
burdon and we just didnt have the time or resourses...

I'm surprised with this one, cos i have quite a few of your
tracks and think they are great, the piano melody sounds
superb along with the vocals, the only thing that lets it
down in my opinion is the 808 style drums.

I dont know what it is about the drums which i dont like.
Apart from that as usual production arrangement and
structure are damn good, the outro is genius.

I thought it sounded kinda massive attacky from 100th
window, which is a good thing.

listening again. normally I don't like vocals over
electronic music. but this is alright. although the vocal
sounds a bit rough and dry as you said. it doesn't blend in
with the track.
maybe use a good quality reverb on it? the Ambience reverb
is freeware but is just as good as the commercial reverbs.
sounddesigner rob papen (albino vst) even made some presets
for it.
