I'd love an active thread that lives on where people suggest a great album of the moment; perhaps a recent release or something not considered terribly known about. I'm always wanting to listen to new gear.
So this is an attempt.
Any takers?

Arzachel- Arzachel
1969 prog album, but with a slight Gothic tone discernable in the organs, guitar lines and the almost operatic vocalist, deep and trying to be scary, of course. I really love the dischordant organ notes and overwhelming pretension. Some relation to Egg.

icarus - squid ink
a blurb from allmusic:
"Icarus' third full-length effort remains something of a hidden gem. A significant move forward from their previous material, the pair deserts their previous muse of proto-jungle this time in favor of adventuring even further into laptop-fuelled abstraction. "Sake" and "Stuzzikini" are more ambient weaponry than music, with these precision-guided sonics countered by the humanized instrumentation that lights up the delicate percussion of "ZZ9," "Oott," and the near-perfect "Cyan." Another fine demonstration of excellent electronica from a criminally underrated duo."
its definitely something ive been listening to a lot lately. they've got a newer release out (the very bizarre semi-improv-with-broken-instruments album "i tweet the birdy electric"), but i like squid ink the most.

Brian Eno - Another Green World
This was Brian's first album after leaving Roxy Music, and to me it seems he really sort of let loose all the pent-up experimentalism which was denied to him in a band setup.
I can't give a point of reference because teh only other things that sound like it are bits of other Eno albums.
Maybe some Sylvian or Fripp stuff... but it's all indebted to Brian, and he probably plays on the tracks in question anyway.

excellent list, plenty of excellent music, but all in all too much heavy stuff for a normal listener like myself :)
i like something to relax with occasionally...
down to earth = something nice, calm, warm...something like that "big calm" by morcheeba you have on your list :)

gimmik - back to basics. thanks to tolstoyed this has become one of my favourite records. le ciel is a "must hear".
Libyan Joe 24th November, 2003 The title couldn’t be more fitting, Gimmik have certainly looked to basic techniques for their second album, minimal & stripped is the direction taken. This isn’t to say the tunes are lacking, on the contrary less really is more.
Compositions are fairly simple but with an intricate, well structured use of drums. There may be rapid beats but ‘Basics’ remains blissfully calm and chilled-out, it doesn’t have the annoyance of say, ear-piercing stuff like Venetian Snares or Kid606. It’s not all harshness either, scattered amongst are interludes of beat-free ambience and delicate sounds.
In ‘Le Ciel’ we find Matmos crunches and glitchy beats, topped off with an incredible post-modern production giving the sounds so much more depth. ‘L’appel Des Cours’ is one of those classic Boards Of Canada moments, an eerily beautiful tune based on nothing more than a simple synthesizer and reverb.
Gimmik are heavily gifted at sequencing, the results a step above others in the same field. They combine all the styles of IDM from the last decade creating something new, from ambient, to glitch to drum ‘n’ bass. There’s also a nice menacing, dark feel to the pieces which adds to the powerful impact of the album.
This is as exciting as any early Aphex record and ill be remembered for a long time to come. Knowing Toytronic, ‘Basics’ will probably be sold out by the time you read this. Nevertheless, this is clearly album of the month and well worth the wait.
9/10
