i'm going to go insane... every time i spend any amount of time at all reading about music, i find more and more releases that i have to hear and it never ends, and what will become of my generation? what will become of those of us who let the infinitismal flow of information flow infinitismally? i've never felt so anxious about this before, but it's really ridiculous don't you think? it's hard to ever do anything, when i spend so much time absorbing what others have done, how can i ever live up to any of it, how can i ever even reach the point of living up to it, when every time i try to start i stop myself because it doesn't seem good enough immediately... wah...

The curse of choice. Modern life gives us so many choices that we now become anxious because it's more and more difficult to make the correct ones.

Yes, Douglas Coupland called it "options paralysis" and it's nasty and true. And he described that principle BEFORE the interweb. Now it's even worse, wiht an infinite array of information and the fear that you might miss something crucial.

You've committed a catachresis, if by infinitismal you were trying to spell infinitesimal, which means "Immeasurably or incalculably minute."

you need an overdose.
try to dl as much as new music as possible. after a while you'll be tired of all the new crap that's been thrown into the ether, day after day.
you'll be crying for a new hobby.

That's not true at all. I'm in the same situation, kind of, and downloading mediocre music only makes me want to download even more, hoping that I'll find something better. And there's an awful lot of great music. Boohoo

it is going to be interesting to see what sort of profound marks the internet will leave on the psyche of the bourgeois, male, collector in this era... i don't think we really stand a chance, quite frankly...

I'm kind of glad i'm on 56k, in a way. There's just no way i can keep up, cash or speed-wise, so i just kind of wade through all the recommendations. Most of which come from people in this thread, actually so keep it up, you're doing a poor lad a great service.

Music is basically the reason I haven't went to school in two years or worked in almost a year. I'm just never bored, and the opportunity to do this is always there. It's really laughable and shameful but very nice.
I've really started to get into a good groove and listen to new favorites a lot rather than discarding them for something new to me that usually isn't going to be all that special anyway. But there's times when it gets hectic and there's too many options.

very well stated.
don't worry about keeping up, just enjoy what you can listen to. you have the rest of your life ahead of you, you have plenty of time to listen to it all over the span.
