Coldplay

The_Funkmaster from Newfoundland, Canada on 2002-01-14 02:25 [#00069466]

Who here likes Coldplay? I love the album Parachutes, in
fact I'm listening to it right now... the songs are very
good, running from positive, to negative, and they really
achieve these feelings very good... I think the lead singer
has a great voice as well... I think these guys are very
similar to Travis, but better... althought Travis is a good
band... what do you think?

teapot from brisbane on 2002-01-14 02:52 [#00069499]

i love parachutes i think its amazing, but i fuckin really
really hate travis.

titsworth_courier from washington, dc on 2002-01-14 03:21 [#00069521]

i HATE coldplay. UGH. easily some of the most bland,
uninspiring, and facetious music in the last decade. i just
cannot understand why so many people like it. it always
makes me laugh when people say 'parachutes' is the album
radiohead should have made after 'ok computer.' fuckin'
dolts. i hate travis too, which is unfortunate cos that's my
first name. but i can't help that they suck. not as bad as
coldplay tho. just godawful derivative shit, and radiohead
will even tell you that coldplay are cold playin' them.

teapot from brisbane on 2002-01-14 03:28 [#00069526]

i love radiohead 10 times more than i like coldplay ok, i
like the sound of coldplay, i enjoy... blah the end.

titsworth_courier from washington, dc on 2002-01-14 03:38 [#00069528]

why don't you just listen to the bends more instead of
listening to a totally unoriginal act? save yourself some
money, or use it to buy a 2nd copy of the bends or even the
first album. as much shit as radiohead get for pablo honey
i'd say that album is about "10(0) times" more interesting
than coldplay. shite. at least coldplay aren't going to try
to copy kid a and amnesiac. that'd be laugh. they're making
enough money copying off of radiohead's style from 6 years
ago, sadly more money than radiohead themselves are making
by persuing new musical frontiers. i think parachutes has
outsold kid a and amnesiac, and it probably has outsold the
bends in the united states too, which is really tragic
irony.

The_Funkmaster from Newfoundland, Canada on 2002-01-14 03:39 [#00069530]

heh, I take it you hate Coldplay... well I like them,
Parachutes is a great album...

AMinal from toronto, canada on 2002-01-14 03:45 [#00069532]

the best thing about coldplay is their production.. but wait
a sec.. as it turns out they used the same producer as
radiohead!

AMinal from toronto, canada on 2002-01-14 03:46 [#00069533]

or, at least the one who produced ok computer

corc from new zealand on 2002-01-14 03:56 [#00069536]

I'm with titsworth. the music is bland, unoriginal etc. the
sound/production is really good but then the quality of the
actual music...

titsworth_courier from washington, dc on 2002-01-14 03:57 [#00069537]

it's actually travis (almost the same band anyway) who used
nigel godrich to produce their 2 (most recent?) albums.
nigel produced 1/2 of the bends, and all of ok computer, kid
a, and amnesiac.

AMinal from toronto, canada on 2002-01-14 04:05 [#00069538]

thanks tits

Ophecks from Nova Scotia on 2002-01-14 04:12 [#00069542]

Coldplay isn't very creative, or original... but they're
damn fine pop craftsman. Very talented, I don't care how
jaded you are.

Travis is better, though!

titsworth_courier from washington, dc on 2002-01-14 04:24 [#00069547]

i do like travis better. like coldplay, they have a lot of
bad songs. but they do have one i like a lot, "sing." i
liked it enough to play on my show cos its banjos blended
well with this mogwai song "2 rights make 1 wrong". "sing"
doesn't rip off radiohead like some of their other songs do.
coldplay are bigger copycats, hence their name (cold playin'
the public for dolo).

Ophecks from Nova Scotia on 2002-01-14 04:24 [#00069548]

Actually, Sing is by Travis! :-D

Git yer facts straight! It is a fantastic song though.

titsworth_courier from washington, dc on 2002-01-14 04:35 [#00069554]

actually what i was saying was that unlike coldplay, among
travis's bad songs is one i like - "sing". coldplay doesn't
have any songs that particularly interest me.

Ophecks from Nova Scotia on 2002-01-14 04:45 [#00069563]

Oh sorry, misinterpreted.

*ashamed of my stupidity

titsworth_courier from washington, dc on 2002-01-14 04:48 [#00069565]

no problem, you nova scotian hunk you! *does best funkmaster
lisp*

kidding, funksta! ;P

Ophecks from Nova Scotia on 2002-01-14 07:57 [#00069601]

............

............

The Man Who from Travis is amazing, I swear it's my favorite
guitar album of the last decade. (not including Radiohead,
of course!)

corn grower from Iowa on 2002-01-16 04:37 [#00070513]

I agree with funkmaster, I just bought parachutes and have
been listening to it alot lately. I like it alot

The_Funkmaster from Newfoundland, Canada on 2002-01-16 12:08 [#00070661]

I own The Man Who and The Invisible Band by Travis, and
Parachutes by Coldplay, and although Travis have release
some excellent songs, they have also release some very
stupid and boring songs... Whereas PArachutes is pretty much
excellent all the way through (my opinion)... I like
Parachutes better... and sure it's nothing new and
innovative, but who said you needed to be new and innovative
to be good?

The_Funkmaster from Newfoundland, Canada on 2002-01-16 12:10 [#00070663]

heys tits man, you better not be making fun of us
Newfies!!!!! Newfies are gonna rule the world one day
bye!!!!! :)

IronLung from Dark Side of the Shroom on 2002-01-16 12:19 [#00070677]

I have to agree with you Funkmaster...

parachutes is a wonderful album....You should check out
their live EP's also...I think they have 2 officially
out....

Ophecks from Nova Scotia on 2002-01-16 12:24 [#00070682]

No way, Travis kicks Coldplay's ass! I love them both.
Trouble is one of the best song I've ever heard. Driftwood,
from The Man Who, may BE the best song I've ever heard!

Earface on 2002-01-16 13:17 [#00070707]

The best thing about Travis and Coldplay is that one day
they will die. I hope I'm there to see it.

Radiohead, on the other hand, are an amazingly
inspirational, talented band. Pyramid Song sends shivers
down me.

Jarworski from Wales on 2002-01-16 13:24 [#00070712]

Coldplay are alright, nice n mellow, but I only like
'Yellow' and 'Don't Panic', rest of em are turds. Travis are
fucking awful, apart from 'Writing To Reach You' which is
average. Radiohead are pretencious student cunts and should
die soon, so everyone can get on with their lives instead of
wondering if they've been scared out of their Aphex phase by
shit record sales

Ok, I've been listening to Travis a lot today and yesterday,
and I think it's pretty good... still not as good as
Coldplay, but pretty good... Parachutes is a great album!!!
The Invisible Band is a good album!!! The Man Who is
alright...

I think Yellow by Coldplay is an amazing song!!! I have
never gotten sick of it no matter how much I've heard it,
and it still sends shivers through me... I also think Safe
by Travis is an amazing song!! A similar effect to Yellow...

I hate coldplay as well. Uninteresting, uninspiring,
recycled rubbish. Don't people realize we need LESS support
of this kind of industry bullshit? There are BILLIONS of cds
out there from the past that are classics, people should
invest money in these if the industry won't stop pumping out
this crap.. I mean COME ON, how daft are you people?! When
you're 30 are you still going to be listening to coldplay? I
doubt it. They've ALREADY been forgotten god friggin dammit.
Another can on the assembly line that's what they are.
Radiohead are progressive and I agree with the first person
who stated he/she hated coldplay. Pablo Honey is actually
quite the listen, people just don't give it the time of day
and forget its a DEBUT, the fuckers.. Listen to Blur's
debut, people don't give them HALF the shit radiohead get
for there's despite Pablo being better.

Travis to me are just as bland despite Nigel producing them.
Borrriiinnngg.. If you want some good music go out and buy
some Pixies as well.

I meant it when I said there are billions of better things
you could spend your money on.. And if you can't figure out
what to buy give ME your money, I have about a hundred jazz
cds alone I could buy.

I agree with Thelonius Punk, Pablo Honey is NOT a bad album,
in fact its lightyears ahead of 90% of the shit out there.
Why do you people hate it so much? Because it isn't the
same sound that Radiohead is known for? Just because it is
DIFFERENT doesn't mean it is BAD.

but the thing is Dingle its not even indie.. YEEESSHH that
crappy 'yellow' song was driving me nuts with its stupid air
play.

Pavement is pretty indie and they rawk! Err... or USED to
rawk I should say, kind of went downhill towards the end.

his work on parachutes is like the perfect thing for each
song.

spies... ripping of exit music....

..

like coldplay

every now and then hhaha.. sing is an amateur song... as
