Hi there -- I'm looking for tips to help basslines sit in the mix nicely. I have a problem in that my basslines either are swallowed up, normally by the Kick, or are overpowering. Any tips would be grossly appreciated.

Sounds like you should use a compressor... I really don't have this problem. If I use a kick, I prefer to have it "hard" (when I make the type of music I am currently making) so the bassline always has a lower volume...
but that doesn't really help you... sorry

Yes, I know to use a compressor or a gate -- I was looking for tips on settings, really. But, thankyou anyway.

you could mix so that frequencies are only used by one track; i.e. the same frequencies are not used by bouth the kick and the bassline.
That will make the mix more clean anyway.

Key : How do I adjust the frequencies so?
JAroen : they are already on separate tracks.

I have this problem too. I find doubling up the tracks sometimes helps... ie one kick track with the low frequencies, another with the mids.
