most of the time you are able to discuss .... or persway someone into liking a flick or whatever you feel..
...but the constant battle trying to force someone to believe that the movie is worse off ... that will never happen.
why attempt an arguement on such basis?
if someone enjoys the flick, let them.
the title of this thread is a positive one; let it live

the substance is in the relationship that forms between two people who in any other situation would probably never even speak to eachother. it's about an extremely close friendship that forms between these people who have nothing but their respective loneliness in common.
but i think that this substance is perhaps to subtle for most audiences and i can see how some people might find it pretentious.

This film isn't bad, but everyone is picking it to shit for obvious reasons. It is a refreshing film, but not a monolithic achievement. Like Pulp Fiction, ehem,.. More a gossamer. A fleeting , but precious moment.

I'm going to throw my two-cents in:
I don't really watch many films these days, I'm a bit over the art-form, but this one touched me........ I couldn't take my eyes off the screen......... the images were captivating and the story, as Bogala said, was fleeting and precious.......... aching and human. An amazing effort for what I believe was the directors second film (???)........ there may be "better" films, and of course people will have differing opinions on it's merits, but while I was watching I was captivated, and not a lot does that to me.... be it music, writing, visual arts, dance etc. etc.
Thank you for you patience ;)

precisely, my friend..
i'm not sure any of the praise bestowed upon this film by xlt board members could be described as nepotism.
oh, and if you didn't like lost in translation, you have no soul.
i realise that's just my humble opinion, but it also happens to be a fact.
look it up if you like.

Well, I think the academy favors the Coppola name. Sorta nepotism.
