saw 85-92 cd

nacmat from spain on 2002-01-13 18:50 [#00069205]

my saw 85-92 cd doesnt have very good cuality of sound,
above all in the first tracks. is it normal? is it because
of how it was loaded?

I don't think mine has any problem like that...seems
abnormal.

A few of the SAW traxs were mastered from crappy cassettes
that RDJ did for his mates... XTALs (the first track) is the
most obvious example (with bits of tape hiss etc..)...

yeah, i thought XTALS sounded a bit off in bits. sounds like
the tape was a little worn even, a bit wobbly. its cool
though once you get used to it.

i like the raw sound of that record very much ... has
something more "live" to it ...

agreed, doki...a lot of the charm of SAWI comes from it not
sounding too polished or over-produced...

Another good example of Tape Wobble is the beginning of the
Mike P remix of ON...mastered straight from the cassette
that Mike gave RDJ...

it´s funny cause i also like that superproduced stuff (like
i would say the druqks lp) but it has to be without any
fault, know what i mean? if superproduced than please in a
perfect way, cause glitches would sound way too disturbing
and not charming anymore ... on the other hand there´s this
more "homemade" sound i love cause it´s like i said more
live to me ... and it doesn´t fuck me up that much when i
listen to my own stuff, hehe ... ;-)

personally I'm for the perfect production stuff most... but
it's not a must... if it doesn't sound perfect, then that's
fine... like older recordings I like, and they definately
aren't perfect sound quality...

It's like digital air conditioning compared to fresh air
