horsefactory is very wise to recommend Sunn O))) and Earth.
both are drone bands, Sunn being a sort of Earth tribute:
they play very slow (mostly drumless) instrumental metal.
recommended listening:

Sunn O))) - "00 void"
Earth - "Earth 2"

if you like these, you'll probably enjoy Sunn's other
releases. "Flight of the Behemoth" includes a couple of
Merzbow productions.
